NDMP restore to a Windows server by
Prozac
I have a NetApp NAS, and I'm looking at how to backup the device. I
have Legato, and have tested backing up via NDMP. Does anyone know of
a way to restore a NDMP backup to a Windows server? We are a Windows
shop and I don't have a NetApp NAS(Sun or Solaris box) at my cold site,
and was hoping to...

Backup hard-drive to multiple DVD-RAM discs? by
Ken Moiarty
Hi there...
I'd like to use (if possible) multiple DVD-RAM discs to backup my system's
hard-drive to. Is there such a DVD writer/burner product out there that
provides for automated cueing of multiple discs (like there exist among home
entertainment DVD and CD players with disc caddies, for...

Looking for Parttime opportunities in MA by
Ramesh Pun
Hi,
A friend of mine is looking for some parttime Unix Administration / Storage
Engineer openings in central MA.
If this isnt a good place to ask this questions, is there any group
specifically for storage positions?
Thanks.

Problems with FibreChannel by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have a HP FibreChannel adapter that runs with an adaptec driver
(downloaded at HP, but it is an adaptec, don't ask me why). It is
connected to a Compaq StorageWorks Modular Data Router. But I can't see
it in the System, VeritasBackupExec, whatever... Why?

Max FileSystem size for NAS by
f0rd42
Hi
we're currently thinking about some NAS strategies. Unfortunately the
application in use needs all data at a single LUN / Share. As we came
into trouble with the max LUN size (2TB) we're thought about providing
the necessary amount of storage via CIFS (not good at all, I know, but
the only...

Loses data when PC shuts down by
Maxim S. Shatskih
using this with firewire. I'm using Win 98, second edition.
Stop using Win98, it's a crappy operating system with poor history (on-the-knee
made-not-properly-designed-patch-over-the-paleolithic-MS-DOS).
Use some of the Windows NT OSes - Win2000 or WinXP.

Sony S AIT-1 compression disabled? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'm using Sony's S AIT-1 internal drive for backup purposes in a Win
2003 SBS machine. It seams to me that it is not using hardware
compression when performing backup, although it's enabled through the
Ntbackup configuration. When I look at the drive properties in the
Device manager, i see the...

Thecus N2100 NAS by
Althalus
I recently bought a Thecus N2100 YES box. I was after a network disk
which I could store HD video footage on (at least until someone decides
on a DVD format). Basically it has an Intel Xscale chip, 128MB memory
and (I've put in) 2 x 300gb Maxtor eSATA disks.
Turning the box on I get the startup...

Comments on Software RAID for O/S volume? by
The One We Call 'Dave'
Hi,
We're going to be purchasing a database server from IBM. Although the
database itself will be housed on a 10-drive SCSI-based external storage
unit, the operating system will reside on two drives housed in the server
itself. The drives will be mirrored (RAID 1). I noticed that the server

drive. If I didn't partition it, and I put on more than 128GB, I wonder
if I will have problems.
Create a test of 2 partitions - one 127GB, another 1GB. Then try to put some
files on the second 1GB partition. If this will be fine - then there are major
chances that everything will be...

Computer Training for Veritas StorageFoundation by
Will
Does anyone make a good computer based training CD for Veritas
StorageFoundation 4.x?
I'm finding the Veritas StorageFoundation UI has lots of redundant
components, and it's really not clear how several key ideas operate. For
example, if you have four drives in a raid group, and stripe across...

Loses data when PC shuts down by

I don't know, it might be worth trying that one too,
except it seems MS has now taken it off their 'site.
It's here though,
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=90
named 290831usa8.exe
It appears to only replace the scsiport.pdr file in the
iosubsys folder.
Correct. This is...

How would you store 100TB data? by
[email protected]
Hi, I'm a student and out of my curiousness I want to know how data
centers usually store their data. Some mail provider liker Gmail and
Hotmail must have huge volume of data, even properly compressed. I just
can't imagine they could store it in hard drives. Is there any special
devices?
Thanks in...

Melio vs MetaSAN,... and CXFS by
eWolf
I'd like to discover differences between SAN shared file systems like
Sanbolic Melio, Tiger MetaSAN and SGI CXFS.
If you have any experience with at least both Melio and MetaSAN or if
you know the competitive comparison, please advise ?
