iSCSI to SATA by
sumandra majee
Hi,
Can I access SATA disks via iSCSI? The intutive answer seems no, since
iSCSI is using scsi pdus.
But then again I see vendors selling enclosures full with SATA drives
but accessible via iscsi. So is there a conversion of scsi to sata in
the controller.
Thanks for any help

Backup devices by
John Aldrich
I have recently been hired by my employer and have been tasked with
creating a backup strategy. We have a server that currently has less
than 80 Gigs of drive space on it, and less than half of that is
"used." To that end, I've been reviewing possible backup devices and
saw something new (to me,...

Extremely Fast Imaging of NTFS Volumes? by
Will
I have an older Windows NT box that for several reasons needs to remain at
Windows NT for a while. I need to find a way to image the boot device on
this machine quickly, probably from a DOS or Linux preboot environment, but
I would prefer to find a Windows based utility.

it's D:\ will be replicate with NAS-A. However, every time I unzip the

LDAP replacing NIS by
Faeandar
I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with using LDAP in
a large environment, particularly it's impact on NAS storage such as
NetApp.
I'm concerned that since LDAP responses are not cached by the NAS
device that there will be a noticeable impact to performance, though
the grapevine...

File system discussion in comp.arch by
Bill Todd
An interesting (well, to me, anyway) discussion about what
characteristics a good file system should have has recently blossomed in
comp.arch, and rather than try to divert it here I'll just point to it
there for anyone who'd like to read or join it:
The discussion can be found in the more...

Multiple servers access to single shared resource point by
[email protected]
Hi,
I am newbie in storage.
I have installed two servers in 2003 Edition. The two servers are
using EVA8000 SAN, and I have created a LUN with 500GB and shared it.
So, now two servers are able to look at this single point of LUN and
access the files. Now the question is I am not able to see the...

Brocade 2800 serial connect by
reinhard
Hello all,
trying to revive a Brocade 2800 SAN switch. Admin password is unknown
and irretrievable.
Read in the Brocade message boards that internal serial port can be
used to reset admin pw.
Fine so far - dismantle the unit hook up cable to serial port and check
via Hyperterminal and...

Replacement for a STK L20 ? by
Johan Pålsson
Hello,
We are looking for a replacement of our aging Storagetek L20 (LTO1)
But, it seems that the L-series is "end of life" as SUN sees it, so i
have begun to look at alternatives (otherwise i would probably looked
at
a new L40 with a LTO3 drive).
One vendor had suggested a Tandberg T40 (LTO3)...

I'm connected to an HDS DF600F SAN array through fibre on a Redhat
Enterprise Linux 3.0 server. The array works fine, but I can't figure
out what to run on the system itself to detect the RAID level of the
drives presented. ie I've got sdc-sdv as the drives connected to the
SAN. I been told...

Server vs. NAS Storage by
[email protected]
I am trying to think through options for a mission-critical office
requiring a storage server.
What are the differences and pros/cons of a computer/server vs. a
freestanding NAS network accessible storage device? Assume either one
will have a RAID 1 mirroring configuration.

The FC HBA should enable the inspection of all FC...

have been lurking and could use your collective input. I am a storage
research analyst with Aberdeen Goup and we are preparing a report on
what it will take to push iSCSI further into the data center. As part
