Sending a fax Windows 7 by
Des[_2_]
Hi I live in the UK and woundered if I could send a fax using my PC.
Years ago (about 1990) I had WinFax which allowed me to do this. I
could receive them if my PC was on also. I simply typed up somthing in
MS Word and faxed it.
Now I have Windows 7, an AOL wireless/wired router. I tried

Help! Losing internet when downloading big files from usenet by
pub
When I start to download large files, such as video, from the internet on my home computer, the internet breaks down and none of my three home computers can browse the internet.
The only thing I can to get the internet back is to restart both the Tims Warner cable box and the router. I've called...

Help! Losing internet when downloading big files from usenet by
pub
I don't do Bitorrent. The problem happens when I'm downloading binary files from usenet using Newsbin. And powering off only the router doesn't fix the problem. I tried. I have to power down both the cable box and the router for it to work again. The router is a Netlink or NetGear (I'm away...

OT Firefox/BabelFish messing up Japanese translations? by
John Doe
It has always worked correctly, up until just yesterday.
When I enter a group of boxes/squares that means something in
Japanese and then hit "translate", in the translation box, those
boxes turn into English looking (HTML?) code before being
"translated" by BabelFish. And all it does is return...

Des[_2_]
Hi I am long overdue for a new motherboard. Currently mine is an Asus
2005 make. I was looking at this
GA-MA785GPM-UD2H/
It states 7.1 suround sound. That I beleive is an 8 Speaker system. I
only have 3 connections.

Computer won't start by
Metspitzer
I have an XP machine that was working fine last night when I shut it
down. It would not start this morning. I pulled the side off. The
mobo ready light burns. I unplugged the power supply from both mobo
connection and re seated them. When I push the power button, the CPU
fan rotates for just...

Tennis, BNP Paribas Open (Second Round) by
John Doe
Harrison versus Troicki. Second set, shortly before the 5-2 break.
The scoreboard on the court behind the players was saying stuff
like "PCI device list" "Windows did not..." "safe mode".
FWIW... ESPN3 has replays.

Network printing by
Metspitzer
I would like to convert my USB printer to a network printer.
It looks like this one is all Newegg has.
Good? Bad?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833996123
Since this has two USB ports, could this allow a USB hard drive to be
used as a network drive?
I was also looking at...

What is the latest intel processor and is it faster than others. by
Des[_2_]
I am looking at upgrading to a new PC. I knew where I was with AMD.
AM, AM2, AM3. Simple but with Intel it is as confusing as trying to
get the best deal on a mobile phone.
Atom, Core 2, Pentium M, Itanium, Xeon, Pentium 4 and now i7. It's
enough to give you a head ache and I haven’t looked at...

My OCZ Agility 2 120 drive has just died for the second time by
Metspitzer
I am not too pleased to be starting over for the 3rd time. Nothing
was backed up, but nothing but my settings were lost.
The good news is that OCZ has agreed to replace it with an Agility 3.
I am considering ordering another Agility 3 and trying RAID.

Yate Loon fan with thermistor - please explain by
Orson Cart
I stripped some junked PCs, and pulled a Yate Loon D12SH-12 fan from
one. It has a thermistor on about 25 cm of wire attached.
It has the standard 3-pin connector for case fans.
When I search for this model number I find it was a high-flow fan,
and see pictures on a few websites (mostly parts...

Why all big PC tech Magazine Publish in England? by

all colors filled PC tech magazine published and printed in England.
How come they do that?
England don't make any of hardware related computer industry. In
fact, England has no company

Getting used to flash player weirdness by
John Doe
You have to get used to flash player weirdness if you enjoy ESPN3
(the Internet version of ESPN).
Using Firefox. I start a game and a pop-up window comes up. As
usual it will take a while for the game to start showing. Fifteen
seconds later, I change my mind and try to close the window. The...

Computer speaker recommendations. by
John
For listening to the occasional MP3, sports video clips (like ESPN) and
such. The speakers on my LCD are pretty puny and not really loud enough
to hear much. I don't have a sound card so standard mother board
connections are all I have available. The mother board has VT1708
high-def with a...

A few Annoyances by
Davej
Just noticed that a USB plug is the same width as an RJ-45 socket.
That is pretty stupid.
Also wonder how many, if any, GUI OS's can be shut down without seeing
the screen?

How do you copy a word? by
John Doe
I suppose this is obvious, but...
You have to use the keyboard and mouse? Taking your hand off the
mouse after double-clicking, then copy with control plus c?
Or to double-click, then to right-click and select copy?
I just say "cop".

Or maybe there is a better feature. Or maybe you like some other
