This is about my previous post about my HDD showing 7 Gb on a 40GB Hard Drive.
Hate to post this, could have said nothing, but maybe it could be a lesson for
someone with an older PC. Here goes:

AMD64 or Semperon, deal or no deal? by
Tad Confused
I have been weighing up the value of these two processors
in a new system. It seems to me the two processors have
fairly similar performances in most situations but that an
AMD64 system is considerably more expensive at about
£100 - £150 more (not so easy to compare as other items
on the machines...

External display problem by
Tekmanx
I have a Dell Latitude D600 and a NEC LT158 projector that would not
work properly together. On a fresh install of windows with the latest
security patches and all drivers but the video driver, I can hit my "Fn
+ F8" key combination to activate the external video display and it
works fine. Upon...

400w Power Supply on older 250w system? by
Kevin G.
Hello all,
I have an older e-Machines system in which the Power Supply just died
out. The PS in this case is a 250w 20-Pin + 4 power supply. I do
happen to have a newer 400w 20-Pin + 4 power supply laying around here,
but I'm a bit unsure on whether to stick the larger wattage PS into
this...

D: Drive Disappeared by
Bob
For no apparent reason, I lost the D: drive in Win2K. It shows up on
the BIOS POST, so I know it's there. The IDE channel is present in
Device Manager. Devide Manager also reports that the physical drive is
present and working properly. It just does not show up in Win2K.
What is going on and what...

LCD monitor advice by
Dave
Submitter here. Just bought a new 19-inch LCD monitor. It's an
"off-brand" monitor purchased from a well-known big-box store. I love
the size and the resolution (1280x1024), but I'm not crazy about the
inherent "fuzziness" in the picture. This is especially true of text.
I've tweaked it every way...

Help ...hard drive broken ..Can I fix it myself??? by
Jenny
Hi,
My hard drive has just failed. It won't boot at all and its making odd
wining and clicking sounds. It's a Maxtor Diamondmax (the Maxtor
Powermax software cannot even see it on my system)
I would like to recover the data, although it's not that valuable
really, but I don't want to spend £400+...

win98se and adsl modem by
Wulf Solter
From a quick review of your modem it is purely that - a modem. What you
are after is an adsl ROUTER. You will be very lucky if you can access
the modem you currently have with USB & Ethernet at the same time.
A solution would be to to plug modem's USB into the pc that is powered
on most often,...

How make audio output mono by
David Peters (UK)
Is it possible to make an audio source which is mono on ONE
channel and play it as mono through BOTH channels
The audio source may be a WAV or MP3 file which is already stored

socket.
Maybe there is a software utility which can do...

CRT Monitor Troubles by
TheBlueFuzzy
Whenever I use one of my CRT monitors, and I open a window with lots of
white on it (i.e. google home page in IE or paint) the vertical and
horizontal width and height increase. It is monitor specific, I know
this because I have tried a few different monitors with it.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

fans there are arror markers to tell you which direction the fan

Do I need anything more than modem and access point for WLAN by
pml
Just wondered if a broadband modem, an access point and a notebook
with a wireless network card is enough (hardware wise) to get online
wirelessly.
If yes, what kind of cable should I use between the access point and
the modem (a “router to client cable” or a “peer-to-peer” cable)?
Can I later...

Memory - install 1 or 2 or 3 sticks, or not? by
[email protected]
In my Motherboard (Asrock? 2003?) manual, it says this for memory:
3 slots for DDR: DIMM1, DIMM2, DIMM3
I currently have a a PC 2700 (DDR 333) in DIMM1 - one slot used up.
I can't figure out if I can install more memory in the system - I do
have 2 slots free, but the manual says:
PC1600/PC2100...

Q re AMD X2 Processors and OS's. by

Will plain vanilla XP pro work as well as another OS? Is there a

Specs for a video editing PC? by
Mike Barnard
Hi.
A colleague at work (here in the UK) wants a new PC which he will
mostly use for editing family stuff from a camcorder and compiling
DVD's. My immediate thoughts are a powerful processor to work on the
rendering, lots of RAM and lots of storeage space. Basic graphics
card and onboard sound...
