Questions about RAID setup by ScottHW
I am not new to RAID in the IT world, but never set it up at home. In the next month or two I will be building a new AMD X2 PC using either an Abit or ASUS mobo, one the latest SLI boards which include RAID. I am targeting RAID 1, as I am not that concerned about performance, but very concerned...

I know this isn't the right place for this, but the people in this group really know a lot about this stuff so I'd thought I'd ask here and hope nobody shoots me. I have a 9pin Okidata impact printer on a xp system running excel 2003 for printing invoices on pre-printed forms from an excel...

oh no, new memory sticks fail memtest86 tests,...BUT.. by matt
I paid $200 for a 3 yr old Dell XPS which has 3 GHz cpu, 1 gig memory, and also a very nice video card plus other extras. It was blue screening every now and then and a memtest showed up errors (always in test #6 which is the Moving inversions, 32 bit pattern test). I thought it was almost surely...

Fretting corrosion by ToolPackinMama
www.troubleshooters.com/tpromag/200310/200310.htm#_My_Story I experienced something like this, recently. Isn't this the damnest thing!? It tries my soul to think about how many times this could have been the real problem, or could have been complicating a problem.

Windows Update pushing CNET NIC driver? by John Doe
Anybody else get this hardware update on the Windows Update web site? "CNet Cnet FAST200 Pci Fast Ethernet Adapter" So far, the Hardware Portion of Windows Update has been less than useless. And for some strange reason I get that apparently silly suggestion. I have a Realtek NIC with a higher...

Delay in Start when Pushing Power Button by fish123456
I have this issue where, when I push the power button on my computer, the fans spin up and I hear this clicking noise. The computer does not boot, there is no display, no beeping, nothing. Then, about 30 seconds later, the hard drive spins-up and the computer boots. At first, I tried swapping...

LCD monitor-give me back my CRT!!!! by pheasant
Decided it was time to join the latest and greatest in monitors. Bought a 19" lcd flat panel. :\ Overall not too bad, just different, but played a game of windows solitaire, and the background on face cards was "busy". Hard on the eyes. The video card in this box IIRC is an old nVidia GE force...

ct4750 sound card -- worth bothering with? by Charlie Wilkes
Someone gave me this card. It's a few years old, dating from about 2000 I believe. It comes with a 5-1/4 front panel, ct4850, with microphone jacks and regular PC audio jacks, and 4 cds of drivers and software. The card itself looks to be a $10 or so item on ebay. My system is new this year and...

turn on printer and broadband turns into dialup by `AMD tower
A neighbor installed a Canon printer in an XP system with Comcast broadband cat5'ed to a nic card. With the printer off, all is as usual. Hit the power switch and the internet screeches to a snail's pace. Just like, or even worse than dial-up. Anybody have any ideas on what's causing this?

When adding a hard drive by SHRED
With one DVD/CD burner. Is it better to set the added hard drive as a "slave" on the same IDE channel as the existing hard drive or set the DVD/CD burner as a "slave" to one of the hard drives and run the additional hard drive on it's own channel?

I solved the problem with my computer thanks to help I found on this newsgroup. My computer kept restarting at radom moments and it turned out that it was in fact the power supply. I had a 500w Allied PS and replaced it with a 480w Antec. That works perfctly now. It was weird because the Allied PS...
