Need New PC recommendations/info by
Dan
I'm looking for a PC w/at least a 3.4Mhz processor, 1
Gig RAM, 128 Meg Vid. RAM and 80 gig hard drive. A 2nd 10k RPM 80 gig
HD would be nice but I think it'd be cheaper to by that on aftermarket
& install it. I'd also want a 17 or 18" LCD. I'm looking to spend
$1400ish.
The machine will be used...

and thought this is a good question for usenet people ! ;) :):

Why is the process of recognizing an optical disk so slow? by
Doc[_2_]
Currently running a Core2 Quad, I find that putting in a DVD, CD or
Blu-Ray disk and waiting for the machine to recognize it and have it
be ready to write to still takes about as long as it did on my first
Pentium I machine. Why is this process still so plodding?

Comp USA idiots, part 897: by
[email protected]
Comp USA advertised a Mad Dog 350W power supply for free after rebate,
so I decided to check it out. Unfortunately neither the MD website nor
the product box listed anything about its amp ratings, and Comp USA
didn't have any I could look at without paying a 15% restocking fee to
open the box.
So...

External mains fan control by
Clive
I'm looking for external 240v fans and a controller - so the fans will come
on if the temp in the cupboard where my file/print server (on 24/7) gets
above a certain temp and suck the hot air out. I have plenty of vents into
the cupboard.

To floppy or not to floppy? by
Jeff
....almost have my 1st full machine finished. ...trying to decide on whether to put in a floppy drive. I can easily foresee needing
the bay that a floppy would occupy for a harddrive instead (removable tray, etc.). From what I gather, the only likely thing that I
would need a floppy for would be to...

The infamous email shuffle words virus or something by
RayLopez99
Ever had an email you send out come back at you as spam? For example,
in your email to a friend, which let's assume is in unencrypted POP
server form, is sent by Outlook and has the words "walk in the park".
Then, in the next hour or so, you get spam that mentions "walk in the
park" along with the...

Motherboard for P4. by
MS
Hi,
Having had such great replies about which processor to buy, now is my
chance to ask about which motherboard.
I've decided to get a Pentium 4 3.0E Ghz 800Mhz Prescott CPU, but my
supplier (who will be doing the actual system build) has loads of P4
motherboards. I've narrowed it down to these...

USB Hub as an iPod/iPhone Charger [solved] by
Man-wai Chang
I found another USB hub that allowed me to short the D+ & D- pin AT THE
OUTPUT END.
It works as long as I don't plug the USB hub into a PC, but the
ACadaptor of the USB hub. If I did, the iPod would give me a yellow
triangle, and refuse to charge itself from the PC.
I don't even need to use...
