MISSINF Folderrs/Files by
[email protected]
Oh wow!
I did a time-consuming (many hours) copy-paste of a large folder with
many folders&files from one large USB stick to another (1TB). The
result looks bad. The # and size of the folders & files are 'way
different:
FROM TO
#FOLDERS=2710 ...

Need Louder Sound by
[email protected]
I want to learn some Chinese, but find these old ears cannot hear the
audio very well at
https://chinesecharacteraday.com/one-word-a-day/
at least.
All I have is an old set of earphones plugged to audio on a W10 PC.
Even at max audio. The phones have no volume control of course.

Norm X[_2_]
This message is Xposted to relevant news groups
Hi,
I have a Nexxtech wireless mouse. It has stopped working on my Win10Pro
desktop PC even after reboot. It worked before. I have moved it to this
WinXP netbook where it works fine. I'm using it right now. It uses a USB
wireless dongle. My...

Ethernet Crossover or Patch Cable by
tb
I am thinking about getting AT&T Fiber internet and do the setup myself.
The fiberoptic wall plug is in the living room of my apartment. I
would like to keep my desktop PC and fiberoptic modem in my bedroom.
The PC has an Ethernet port but no Wi-Fi, so the connection modem/PC
would be via...

Hard drive experiments by
philo
Now that I'm an old retired guy I am finally getting around to doing a
few things I've always wanted to try concerning hard drives.
I mentioned in another thread that I had two drives taken out by a PSU
that failed.
I had all data backed up but wanted to see if switching out the
controller...

Cables Reproducing? by
John McGaw
It has to be that these things are breeding. There used to be a joking
theory that wire coat hangers were reproducing and trying to take over the
world but it seems that computer cables are in the game now.
Do you find that your stock of cables is expanding without your knowledge?
I just looked...

I need to recover USB hard drive by
[email protected]
I need to try to recover data from a USB hard drive which suddenly has
become unreadable.
I'd rather not send it away to do that. I have downloaded and tried a
few programs I have found - to no avail. I tried:
Easeus
Stellar
Remo
None seem to work for me. They do seem to try to scan the drive...

Enclosure for SSD thingy by
Alek
I removed the SSD circuit board (M.2????) from a computer that had died.
I'd like to use that SSD in a computer that does not have a plug-in
connector for such a device.
Is there an external enclosure for such a circuit board that will let me
connect it to another computer?
Is there any way to...

External Backup? by
[email protected]
I have had bad luck with portable USB storage.
Such as the small 'sticks', and larger hard drives.
I have had them all fail on me. I am tired of it.
I think I wud do better if I used portable USB storage with its own
110v power supply (adapter). I have had a few in the past, and they
never...

PSU ? by
philo
I've repaired thousands of machines and once in a while have seen a
failed power supply take out a motherboard.
Only once though have I seen the hard drives taken out.
It was with a good quality supply and I thought it was just a very odd
fluke.
Last night I talked to someone who had also had...

Dell SupportAssist and KingSpec mSATA SSD by
~misfit~[_16_]
A while back I purchased a Dell Latitude E7440 laptop which came with a standard HDD fitted.
However it has a WWAN / mSATA slot available so I bought an mSATA drive. I was short of money at
the time and couldn't afford my usual Samsung Evo SSD so bought a Chinese 'KingSpec' SSD.
I cloned the OS...

Basis of 3.7V & 4.2V mobile battery? by
[email protected]
Since no reasonable series voltage combination satisfies
Nv=3,7; Mv=4,2
how are these strange voltages achieved, and why?
What semiconductor technology do modern mobiles use:
bipolar, CMOS ... or what?
Where are these topics documented?
TIA.

ST4000NM0035 vs ST4000NM0033 by
Lars Bonnesen
For at 4 TB drive sitting internally in a SuperMicro server as an
ESX-test-/develserver, would you prefer the newer Seagate ST4000NM0035 over
ST4000NM0033?
I can see that the newer one are having a slightly faster theoretically
internal speed, but otherwise they look quite the same. Are the...

Hello !
I've installed Debian Stretch on my HP x2 Detachable with the kernel 4.19.
My battery isn't recognised, so I don't have a battery level in the
systray. Only the command `lshw` is able to identify the battery :
