"GSW" wrote in message ... Over the past few weeks, and with more and more regularity, my system hangs accompanied by the sound that was playing at the time, on a very short loop (ie dadadadadadadada). The only way...

Where to buy a 146 HE Opteron CPU? by Bob Day
Does anyone know of an online store that has the low power (55 watt) single processor 2.0 GHz Opteron (the 146 HE) CPU -- either the boxed or the tray version -- in stock? The part number for the boxed version is OSK146ATBOX. Many online stores list it, but it always seems to be backordered, on...

Does the Asus SK8V motherboard support Opteron 240EE ? by Bob Day
The 240EE is a low power Opteron CPU that runs at 1.15 volts rather than the 1.5 volts of the standard Opterons. Does anyone know whether the SK8V will detect that the CPU is a 240EE and, accordingly, adjust the CPU voltage to 1.15 volts? -- Bob Day

E4300 - Very fast temp change with loading by Bob F
In experimenting with overclocking a new system, I've noticed that the CPU temperature displayed varies very quickly with load. Running orthos gets the temp (displayed by PC Probe II) up to 129F within a few minutes. Stopping orthos results in the temp dropping within seconds to less than 100F....

Fax/Phone by Bob H
Can anyone tell me if I can plug a fax machine and seperate phone into a phone outlet using an adapter at the same time and have them both work (of course not at the same time) or must they be switched in and out individually as required?

Is xp Pro dual xeon faster with hyperthreading enabled? by Bob Haase
Hi, I have a dual Xeon Windows XP Pro machine with hyperthreading enabled. I run an application that is specifically designed to run on a dual processor machine. When I run the application and look at the performance graphs in the task manager, it says I'm only using 50% of my cpu resources. ...

Mailstation by Bob Havens
I have an elderly relative who is not computer literate and used a "Mail Station" for several years to send EMail. This is a device that allows one to send and receive EMail over the phone lines. It looks like a very small lap top but has no computer functions other than EMail. Her unit recently...

I'm confused - just bought a new PC based on AMD 64X2 4400+. Its mounted in a MSI K8N Neo motherboard, with a Gig of RAM. If I log in with the first user account I created in Windows XP the CPU speed is correctly reported (by "My Computer"/Properties. MSI's Core application and CPU-Z as 2200...

Will not power up by Bob H[_3_]
I have an E-Machines T2742 that will not power up after last shutdown. I changed the power supply and checked out the front panel push button switch. Is there a relay or something on the main board that controls that function that I would be able to change?

Anyone know what type of connector this is please by Bob H[_4_]
I thought that it was a zif connector or type of, but after looking at other zif connectors, molex type, I am now not so sure. It's on a Compaq CQ60 laptop, and there is or will be a power ribbon coming from underneath the facia and fastens to the connector in the picture. The connector has a...

Asus Gf4 4200ti vs. generic vs. Asus fx5200 by Bob Knowlden
The FX5200 is a low-end DX9 card, but it may lack enough raw power to run DX9 features. The 4200 is from the previous generation; it's pretty fast (and sometimes overclockable to near spec 4600 performance levels). It's DX8 only. You don't mention your CPU/RAM, so I can't guess whether your card...

Thumb Drive 1 GB problem by Bob L
I bought a 8 GB thumb drive and am finding that data becomes corrupted when more than 1 GB is stored. If there is less than 1 GB of data stored, it works fine. And it also works fine if I copy more than 1 GB of data onto the drive until I remove the drive from the USB port. After the drive is...
