Post problem with Z77H2-A3 motherboard by
Bob F
My ECS Z77H2-A3 V1.2 motherboard with an I5-2500K processor worked fine
for years, then started having occasional problems when turned on, it
would not post occasionally. The problem got more frequent over months,
until it finally is next to impossible to get it to post.
When it does post, it...

CPU temp hits 80C then cools back to 55/60 [memtest] by
[email protected]
I was running memtest on an LGA2011 system that seemed to have memory issues.
I noticed that when memtest starts, the core temperature is up to 80 Celsius.
Then it drifts back to 60 (with full 8 DIMMs). Testing only 2 DIMMs at a time
it goes lower to 55 Celsius. This is single-threaded test. So...

Skybuck Flying's Corona Game ! by
[email protected]
Strangely enough version 0.07 hangs on startup on toshiba laptop.
Itried remote debugging it but then the issue goes away.
As far as I know the application/game only uses on thread, however opengl might be using a thread internally.
There were some left overs of critical sections from when the...

128 bit addressing for harddisk/block addressing. by
[email protected]
(Prepare yourself, I don't know how yet ;) except demanding this =D)
Title: 128 bit addressing for harddisk/block addressing.
I will share with you what I have learned so far from excursion into the ms-dos age and "retro-gaming" and such:
Addressing limitations are super annoying in all kinds of...

A strange weakness in all MS Windows versions by
[email protected]
It contains no real/decent programming language, unlike ms-dos that did contain QBASIC, and the C64 which also contained BASIC.
Something is better than nothing.
How will "our" kinds now learn to program ?! It's a bit strange.
I would recommend Microsoft to think about what they could add to...

Advise for intel about integrating RAM onto chip. by
[email protected]
One more posting though about the "RAM" integration attempt of intel and others onto CPUs/chips.
It seems Intel is trying to be "nice" about it and trying to create an "eco" system for other RAM manufacturers to deliver "RAM" chips for integration on top of the Intel's CPUs.
This tactic/strategy...

CPU coolers aluminium versus copper core by
[email protected]
I have an old HP business desktop that seems to have a problem with
overheating. One has to keep the heatsink dust-free in order to survive.
Now this is an aluminium heat sink and the CPU is TDP 95 W.
Looking at some Intel stock coolers, they seem to use aliminium for
65 W CPU, but a copper core...

Skybuck's advise for ms-dos retro-gaming. by
[email protected]
Hello,
Here is my preliminary conclusion for ms-dos retro-gaming:
1. Stick with your best windows computer and use dosbox whenever possible.
2. Gaming on real/old hardware is not advised for following reasons:
2.1 Stinky old computers.
2.2 Dirty old computers.
2.3 Limited storage space old...
