New WD updated for old Seagate Barracuda MB heater by
Flasherly[_2_]
The old HDD I pulled, a 750 Seagate Barracuda, is now replaced by a
Western Digital 2T.
.. . .Along and with -- ongoing MB heat issues, I've been experiencing
for quite some time, rising as high as 130F (both via chipset and an
"auxiliary" sensor - temps provided via SpeedFan).
This new WD --...

TV card by
Seymore4Head
I had a working TV card in my Win7 machine a year ago. I opened my
case and re installed it today. I didn't notice a new device message.
Is there a way to tell if the card is working?
I have installed a splitter into the CATV from my TV. The TV has to
be on channel 3 to work and it does.
I am...

identify USB pinout by

Sorting out the junk shelf, I found some back slot USB ports with the
mainboard connector like this (10 pins, but 2 blank):

x xxx
Which manufacturer used this pinout? I know there were 3 different schemes
going around in the ancient times, but now most follow the Intel 9-pin specification.
I...

Adapter Cable For iPod Plug and HDMI Port? by
tb
My treadmill has a TV screen and an iPod/iPhone cable connected to it.
I'm guessing that the cable has a 30-pin plug (male).
I would like to connect a laptop (with an HDMI port) to this
iPod/iPhone cable and stream programs to the treadmill's TV screen.
I don't seem to be able to find a cable...

initial sale price)....
What makes it Green? For WD, apparently, an 8-second

If a hard disk could be connected using wireless methods, does it mean I
could wipe their SMART data without opening the packages?
Oh no.... :)

Is Microsoft retarded? by
Davej
Is Microsoft retarded? Really.
Do I actually need to write my own windows service to produce a popup to tell me when a MICROSOFT UPDATE is available? All I get is a little grey icon.. I don't want updates to be fully automatic, but I want to be INFORMED when a Win7 update is available. What group...

Had this x4 core update phenom over a x2 athlon long enough...
Not even, nowhere near the processing power I'd expected for VST- and
studio-type main Player plugins. Although there's some improvements,
seems overall a token aspiration on my part.
I'm mainly about normalization, various gates to...

The traffic in this group has diminished to less than the recent
anonymous trolls. Besides binaries, there are still plenty of very
active UseNet groups and some newly created. Unfortunately, some have
dwindled to almost nothing. Naturally, this group has done a good job of
keeping it from...

Failed CMOS battery? Again? by

OK, I have totally failed Gravity search. Amyway, my goal was to post
this under my last post on the subject seems like November/December2014.
At the time I was asking why my system clock seemed to stay where it was
the last time the system was turned off rather than keep up. Seems to
have...

Looking around, sort of, accordingly an hyped situation from who's,

WD HDD Purple People Eater by

Gave it up.
GParted (live boot) and GPT for "full" Win7 recognition/compatibility,
that's about as far as I got. Not as exhaustively as thorough enough
for my purposes. I've older MBs, not with native 3Tbyte hardware
support, which, in the GPT (alternative) scheme of things supposedly
is just...

Phenom quad/MB chipset cooling by
Flasherly[_2_]
Found some old tiny fans, not much bigger than between an inch, less
than two. Smaller than 486/586 fans, not sure where they came from.
Took the two PCI cards out and got lucky by swapping the longer of the
two, over the MB chipset, for a shorter PCI HD controller. Then, the
fan fit over the MB...

OT Legitimate battery sellers? by
John Doe[_9_]
Admittedly, I am good at reading between the lines, but I'm impressed by
the confusion between good and bad batteries. On Amazon, it's rampant.
That's obvious because some batteries sell for outrageously low prices
with claims of superior performance. Even given Chinese dumping, many of
them are...

side. When I was was thinking about it the first time, I was thinking I
