A new gold standard for archival storage? by David Arnstein
There seems to be a broad consensus that magneto-optical disks offer the most reliable long term storage for data. Here is something that appears to be similar, and holds 30GB in a 5 inch package! What do you think about this medium? http://www.akibalive.com/archives/000487.html Reproduced...

A5200 + W2k by Rich
Dear All, Does anyone have any advice regarding running a5200 with a w2k host? Specifically I have a 5200 that the w2k host sees, and then asks for a driver for a "sun sena scsi enclosure". I can't find such a driver on the web. Within disk manager I can see the luns, so I could allways ignore...

Dear All, I have recently started using an A5200 array with one of our windows servers. The wintel box is W2k SP4. It uses the Dell version of Array Manager v3.5 for disk management. Following a power cut, one of the disks failed. The software reported that a disk was missing and trying to...

Acronis incremental backup question by [email protected]
Say I do a complete backup in Acronis (Acronis 9 on XP), and call it Back.tib. Then, I do an incremental backup, pointing Acronis to Back.tib as the archive to increment from (I give this in the "Backup Archive Location" question), and Acronis creates a file called Back2.tib. If I do another...

Acronis Incremental Backup Questions by Rohit
I got Acronis TI last month and installed it on my laptop (I downloaded the latest upgrade patch as well, so I'm running the latest build - I think its 613). I ran a full backup of my C: drive (Windows XP Home Edition) at that moment, and restricting the TIB file size to 700MB to fit on a CDR. The...

Acronis V10 Copy of Disk Differs from Original by Will
I'm getting a strange result with an Acronis V10 boot disk that I would like help understanding. I have a 68 GB NTFS primary partition that I am copying to an identical drive. The result after copying shows two differences: 1) The space free on the destination drive shows 10GB free, whereas...

ACSLS Missing volume by [email protected]
Has anyone encountered a 'missing' volume in their library? I have an L5500 and ACSLS 7.1. Somehow a tape ended up outside the library and is now listed as 'missing' when I query the volume in cmd_proc. When I try to inject the tape, it gets scanned (cap set to automatic), and then the cap gets...

actually making your own floppy diskettes? by Matthew Montchalin
It may /sound/ crazy, but is it possible to recycle old floppy diskettes by carefully cutting them up into little pieces and grinding it all up in an ordinary kitchen "coffee mill?" Then, after it reaches a reasonably fine consistency, pouring the stuff into a mold and heating it up in an oven? ...

Adaptec 21610 controller card : followup by news.tele.dk
Hi, Since my last posting has evolved to a SCSI vs SATA thread, which does not solve my problem, I've posted this new news as a follow up. Unfortunaly our supplier will not take the card back, we made a specific order for it, and it's a "low flow" card, that would end up on their stock for a long...

Adaptec 2410SA SATA Raid 5 : is it a safe choice by Toto
I intend to build a small server for my (6 Win XP computers) home LAN, to backup my Data (and store some original documents). Adaptec 2410SA Serial ATA Raid card seems to be a nice choice in terms of price : you can use 4 cheap disks in Raid 5 mode to "secure" a capacity of 3. If I understood...

Adaptec 2810SA added new drive, now what? by [email protected]
I just added a new 250G drive to a 3-drive raid 5 system (making 4 drives now) and although the Adaptec Storage Manager shows all 4 drives as being part of my raid 5 (TomRaid), the extra space does not show up in My Computer and it shows as an unused volume in Disk Manager. What do I have to do in...
