Optimum page file size for 1 GB? by
Terry Pinnell
I just upgraded my Athlon 1800 512 MB to 1 GB. Is there any general
consensus on the 'best' setting I should use for page file please? I
recall a few years ago much debate/controversy over this, but wonder
if a consensus has now emerged? My CPU is now slow by today's
standards (runs at 1533 MHz),...

Which disks for SATA-II RAID? by
Jim Garrison
I'm planning to build a replacement for my current home
workstation/server, using hardware RAID1 for reliability. I have tried
software/hardware RAID solutions such as the Adaptec 1420SA and
motherboard-based RAID, with the predictably dismal results.
I've pretty much settled on a 3Ware...

Cleaing old / past data off of IDE Drives by
Moif Murphy
Hi,
I have a couple of IDE Drives spare and I'd like to clean them up as
best as I can so they're completely blank (no left over data after
formatting etc). Can anyone suggest a freeware WIN32 or Linux equivalent
that can do the job?
Thanks!

disk seems to have only 1/2 the stuff its size says by
Beemer Biker[_2_]
Got XP Pro computer in from son. Not sure what is going on. Properties
says the disk has 109gb free out of a total size of 149. That comes to 40gb
of stuff. I cannot account for it. Highlighting all the NTFS "C:" drive
shows only 18gb actual in files . There is a 1gb swap file and that...

Unable to determine volume version and state by
[email protected]
Hi,
After I killed all 4 of my partitions, they ended up in various
states. I was able to recover (nearly?) all of my data using R-studio
with just the normal MFT. No advanced search or anything like that was
necessary suggesting the MFT is largely okay. Obviously it's probably
best to just format...

Um... RAID controller/drive problem? by
fred
Help! I'm not yet familiar with all the ins and outs of SCSI drives, and have
the following problem -
I was wondering if it was possible to run a single SCSI hard disk off a SCSI
RAID Host adapter? Because I connected an Ultra320 hard disk to a RAID
controller by itself, and it seems to work...

ibackup off-site backup by
Tom Del Rosso
There's a company called ibackup that charges a fraction of Iron Mountain's
prices but, since you usually get what you pay for, has anyone tested them
out?

Svend Olaf is a God! by
Bruce Williams
Hi all,
Don't know if anyone else here has been in the same situation I was in
(see my thread on 'PQRP' for more info), but Svend came through!!!
I'd lost 24GB of critical data, and Svend wrote a small batch file which
recovered the whole lot!
Admittedly, I may be jumping the gun here, because as I...

Reconnect Hard Drive by

To avoid giggles, I won't explain how improving my backup process
resulted in the loss of both the backup and the original data drive.
But, here's where I am ...
I've "lost" on of my 4 internal drives. Using the XP disk mgmt app,
the drive is reported as "Unallocated" and doesn't show up...
