How to make an informed choice of SAN switch ports by
Nicholas Buckley
Hi everyone,
My main SAN is built around 2 x Brocade 48000 directors - 6 x 32-port cards
per chassis.
Whilst Brocade's documentation is very helpful on e.g. grouping connections
on ASICs to avoid traversing the backplane - and saving a whopping 1600
nanoseconds into the bargain :-) - it has...

using isilon hardware plattforms with freebsd by
Bernd Kuhlen
Hi NG,
I need to attach a storage device to freebsd servers. Rather than using
a classical san solution with maybe netapps i heard of isilion with
their nas solution.
most important for me is simplicity in use, iops/throughput and
scalabilty and flexibility when it comes to increasing the storage...

Hard Question: Write Performance seems low (Sun StorageTek 6540) by
ChrisS
This is a tough one to describe and ask help for, I know. I
apologize.
I have a relatively new Sun StorageTek 6540 RAID. When purchased we
only bought four trays of storage, 300GB 15,000RPM disks. We set up
all the hosts via a director class Brocade SAN switch (5300 I
think). Ever since I...

HELP : how should an Implicit ALUA system respond to an STPG? by
ArystorAaron
hola ffolks:
i looked everywhere online as well as in SPC-3 from T10/T11. fyi, T10
has now restricted access to T10 drafts for members only. i found
that
the same drafts are available from T11. 8-) ^Google^ is your magical
friend. ;-)
so, if an Array says that it provides Implicit ALUA support...

HPC a future cottage industry? by
mac[_6_]
Now I can see a change coming. I know a guy, who is going
into business by himself. He has built (with little help)
a box under his desk with 4 Magny Cours, 128 GB RAM and
28 TB of raid (plus a SSD of 256 GB). This would be
sufficient to run small projects. He claimed it has
faster...

From SCSI U160 to SAS by
Marco De Vitis
Hi,
I have a server which has an Adaptec SCSI Card 29160 installed; it has
an "old-style" 68-pin HD connector.
Supposing I need to connect it to an HP StorageWorks 60 Modular Smart
Array, which only offers SAS connectivity... is there a way to do it,
maybe through some intermediate device? I doubt...

Adaptec 2420SA + seagate Barracude 2 LP = FAIL by
Cydrome Leader
I just tried some SEagate barracuda 2TB LP drives on some Adaptec 2420SA
sata II raid cards.
No dice.
the adaptecs are running the latest 5.2.whatever firmware.
they see the seagate drives, the firmware rev, the capacity (1800GB) but
say the drive is not responding.

MSA2000 with SATA Host Attachment by
W[_3_]
HP has a new RAID array that allows SATA host connections named the MSA2000
(there are options for iSCSI and Fibre Channel host attachment as well).
Does this product allow more than one host to attach to the array?
Can you attach an MSA50 2.5 SAS drive array to the MSA2000? HP...

ReadyNAS NVX and Linux encryption by
Kur
Before I buy such one I really need to be sure that I can have encryption on
this device. I want to use it to store my personal backup at a remote side.
Is it possible to do a rsync (with SSH) from my CentOS box to the ReadyNAS
box where I store my files on an encrypted partition or alike? Note...

Micro SD card / MSP430 interface: write problem by
Christophe Braillon
Hi everyone,
I have interfaced a Micro SD card to a MSP430 microcontroller using the
SPI mode. Everything worked perfectly fine but I recently had problems
when writing too often into my files.
Here is my setup. As I said the card (SDHC 4Go) is directly connected to
the microcontroller via its...

Uploading Flash Translation Layer(FTL) to SSD by
eliq
Is there any development KIT for me to upload or improve FTL resident
in SSD ?
For example, I'd like to devise a wear-leveling algorithm and equip it
to a real SSD, not to a simulator.
Thanks in advance.

1TB Flash in 3.5" size? by
trs80
Does anyone yet make a TB Flash memory in a 3.5" drive physical format. If
so, could you pass on a reference? The interface would need to support
about at a 400MB/s sustained rate. I can work with any interface such as
Fiber Channel or whatever .
thanks for any tips

Compact storage server or storage tower w/ 8 Bays (Min) by
Gaiko
I am trying to find an 8bay (minimum) storage tower that doesn't take
up a ton of space *and* doesn't cost a fortune. The best option would
be a minimally sized self contained box like a via box I read about
(but can't find for sale) (http://www.mswhs.com/2009/10/via-nsd-7800-
review/)
The second...
