Grounded Interests by
Flasherly[_2_]
Somebody was recently getting a little bzzz off their case.
Found it also on my stereo(s). Just enough to transmit amperage
through hairs on the back of fingers from the mixer.
Computer, stereoeos, all together ten boxes that carry operational
voltages. Two with "ground-lift" switches,...

What should I look for (Harddrive) by
[email protected]
I want to buy a larger harddrive for my Lenovo computer. The current
drive is 40GB.
The current drive is a:
Hitachi
model:
HTS541040G9AT00 - hard drive - 40 GB - ATA-100
I'd like to find a drive that is at least 80GB, larger preferred.
I'll be looking on Ebay and possibly elsewhere.

Anybody do a clean install of Windows 10 yet? by
RayLopez99
Apparently it's 'tough' to do.
I did three machines with a non-clean install, and all went well. The only problem is that my ISP modem-router apparently is somehow set to detect machines directly connected to it, even if you use another router downstream of the ISP modem-router, and I had to wait...

Skylake just turned into a DUD for me: No BMI ?!? by
Skybuck Flying[_4_]
Hello,
I just saw somebody on slashdot mention this:
"
From the errata:
Executing CPUID with EAX = 7 and ECX = 0 may return EBX with bits and
set, incorrectly indicating the presence of BMI1 and BMI2 instruction
set extensions.

What needs to be attached to make SATA ports work? by
Brassplyer
What needs to be attached to the mobo for the SATA data ports to work?
I'm putting together a machine, using an SSD that has Win7 already installed from a diff machine.
As far as I know I have everything needed attached to the mobo. When I hit the on button I'm getting lights on the board, fans...

How to enable 2 GB ram on Asus P3V4X motherboard ? by
Skybuck Flying[_4_]
Hello,
Today I loaded bios defaults on accident.
Apperently this causes the bios to revert back to 512 MB of RAM instead of 2
GB RAM.
I forgot what I did to enable 2 GB of ram ?
Maybe I flashed the bios ?

Pos/Neg orientation of front panel leads on mobo header by
Brassplyer
Putting together a system with an HAF 912 case and a Gigabyte EP45 DS3L board. Regarding connecting the front panel leads to the mobo header, the header is marked - and +. Generally is the white the pos or the neg? Does the orientation matter on the HDD LED, Pwr LED, Reset, etc. ?
Thanks

SSD and the Windows Experience Index by
MrTsquare
My build is now just about a year old
Windows7Premium/4790K/770/ASUS97Pro/Samsung840EDO500GSSD.
Initially, the Windows Experience Index (WEI) was running 7.8 with the
SSD contributing a 7.8
Haven't recalculated it in a long time, but for whatever reason the
other day, I looked at it and it...

Z170 and EHCI emulation by
B00ze[_2_]
Good day all.
I realize I'm a bit early asking for opinions, but for the first time
since motherboards with a classic PCI bus, we get motherboards where we
can use a PCIe slot without loosing 1/2 the board's slots, USB ports, M2
slots, etc in the process (thanks to Intel finally realizing that...

boxed memory squathole in danger of exploding by
Flasherly[_2_]
I'm used to thinking in terms of memory in 5-percentile magnitudes.
Buy some better memory, IOW, spend 5-times as much on an expensive
brand and, just possibly, to realize a 5% performance boost over the
dirtiest dog-cheap memory brand, that's known compatible with your MB.
Of course, a modest...

DHCP by
Seymore4Head
Say I have a wireless router that has it's DHCP range set from
192.168.1.100 to .200.
So the first machine to boot up gets .100 the second gets .101
So then a wireless device gets .102
Say I plug in a 4 port switch. Does the switch get an IP address or
does the next device plugged into the switch...
