I just got a Thermaltake Polo735 which comes with a speed controller. Initially the controler slowed the fan down a little but it was intermitant. Now the fan is stuck on full speed - and is bloody noisy. The fan was originaly attached diectly to the PSU. I have made a slight mod and have it now...

Can you recommend a HS and fan by Pat
Hey all, I'm about to order a Celeron D 2.4 Ghz processor. Can anyone recommend a good Heatsink and fan for a socket 478 processor. Something that works better than the retail solution. I'd prefer pretty quiet. And I'd like for it to be under or around $20. I don't want to go spending $40 on a...

Hi. I just bought a Shuttle SS51G, RAM, Processor, etc. through NewEgg and put it together. Unfortunately, I'm getting no POST. The Power LED on the front of the case lights up, the fan and drives spin, and the LED on the system board lights up. However, I don't get any video output. There...

fsb speed - why does it matter? by James Hanley
it seems to me that nobody needs a high fsb. since they could just push the multiplier really high. I can see the greatness of ddr since the same speed processor can read/write twice as much per cycle. (i assume that the cpu has to be ddr to receive or write double)

P4 2.8: Northwood vs. Prescott? by Bob Snelgrove
Hi Guys, I'm having trouble finding a NW. let alone the new (m0) stepping. There are plenty of Prescotts out there and even cheaper it seems. Isn't the Prescott with the 1mb cache a newer, better chip? Is it just that the NW Oc's a little better? Also, if anyone knows where a Retail NW can be...

Celeron D vs P4 by Pat
Hey all, A question about CPUs. I've been looking at the Celeron D as a cheap, very overclockable CPU. Anyone know where I could find a direct comparison of a Celeron D (2.4 Ghz Prescott overclocked to near 3.0 Ghz) vs a cheap P4 (2.4 Ghz Prescot overclocked to near 3.0 Ghz). I've looked on...

PPro on a BX? by P2B
I intercepted some old systems on their way to the dumpster today, and grabbed a couple of interesting items I hadn't seen befo Asus C-P6S1 Socket-8 to Slot-1 adapters, complete with PPro 200Mhz/1MB L2 CPUs. They were on Asus 440FX boards, KN97-X IIRC. I tried them on a few Asus 440BX boards...

3.4Ghz overclock on a 2.0Ghz Celeron by Nate
Just a quick question, probably dumb too, but why does XP and most diag. progs. I run in XP report my overclocked cerleon (3.4Ghz) at it's original speed (2.0Ghz)? Bios and only one other diag program actually report that it is actually running at the overclocked speed in XP. How can I fix this ...
