I'm screwed. by
rpgs rock dvds
Can't get the large metal plate off my 8800GT so I can begin to remove
the stock cooler. Problem is all my screwdrivers are crap and won't
engage properly in the tiny screw head so I can turn them and unscrew
the buggers. I've got lots of silly little screwdrivers, but I think
I got most of them...

Problem with new P4 3.06 & win98se installation by
127.0.0.1
X-No-Archive: yes
Just upgraded my processor from a P4 1.7 - P4 3.06ghz.
The problem is Windows 98 SE always locks up at the same point at the start.
I established that the system is stable by putting windows XP on an external
hard drive and running PRIME95 & MEMTEST. Both ran fine for hours...

Major ISPs dropping Usenet by
nospam
Time-Warner is dropping all newsgroups. Verizon is keeping most of
the Big-8 but is dropping the entire alt.* hierarchy, which includes this
group.
Keep this in mind for future posts, and you may wish to migrate any
existing discussions to a non-alt.* group.

What's the point of overclocking? by
mike3
Hi.
Why do people feel the need to overclock their hardware, anyway? I
don't overclock, I settle for the speed the hardware I got is meant to
run at. After all, overclocking means you have to spend _more_ money in
the long run for a given speed, not less, since it shortens the
lifespan and you...

Cooling Questions by
Peter Cavan
Hi
I have a Dell Dimension 8300 on which I want to improve the cooling. I want
to do this because I know the PC overheats after about 1 hr and is quite
unstable. There is currently the fan in the PSU and a fan on the back which
is vented to act as the CPU fan. I also added a PCI fan to cool the...

Switching from AMD to INTEL! by
Wayne Youngman
Greetings,
After 4 months of living in Barton/nForce2 land, I have decided it's about
time I *knock-up* a current INTEL rig (with a view to overclock!).
I really do rate my AMD systems, but I believe that INTEL has a superior
*Memory & SATA RAID* implementation, and I wants it! (my Precious).
I...

Chalky
Please review the following before responding:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/10/dual_41_ghz_cores/
I am thinking about building a new PC from scratch--it would be my first
self built machine. Can anyone explain to me in plain english what the
downside of using the 805 D and overclocking it...

Tualatin in a GA-6WMMC7 by
~misfit~
Well, after removing the IHS from my Tualatin Celly 1.3GHz CPU I looked
around my parts area and found the only Socket 370 board I have that is
capable of running Coppermines was the aforementioned GA-6WMMC7. It's a
fairly Crap(tm) board, mATX, on-board graphics that use system RAM, no AGP
slot and...

Thermal heatsink Glue? by
Dave E
Hi,
I bought a water cooling kit last week. It was only an £80 cheapie so I
wasn't too surprised when the clip supplied with the northbridge copper
cooling block didn't fit (wasn't even close!) I have an Abit NF7 mobo and
need to somehow attach this water block to it. Any ideas? I've tried...

Zalman 7000A copper cooler...disappointed? by
Sydtech
Today I installed a Zalman 7000A copper cooler in my P4 2.8ghz machine
w/Antec Sonata case. The idea was to replace the noisy stock Intel heat sink
and fan with something quieter and - hopefully - cooler (unfortunately no
place that was open today had a Zalman Northbridge heatsink, or I...

Overclockers.co.uk packaging standards by
Toch
Hi
I am wondering what packaging Overclockers.co.uk generally uses when sending
out graphics cards to customers. Does it use the graphics card's box in a
jiffy bag method or does it wrap the card's box in 2" thick all-round bubble
wrap or foam all placed in a cardboard box? What's your...

Used to overclock, but now problems by
Rich Sias
I was overclocking a dual celeron 366 to 550 and sometimes more until last
summer when I had difficulty installing some software for work. I Regular
clocked it to install and run to not have any problems. Now I can't set it
back. I must have changed the numbers in my BIOS too much. So I tried...

ABIT AI7 - Pentium®4 - 2.6GHz - Overclocking advice :) by
Wayne Youngman
Hi,
I'm just going through my last *stability* tests, and would like to begin
testing the overclocking aspects of my new rig.
I wanted to get the machine *Rock-Solid* using stock settings, now I got a
solid base to work from on my overclocking!

Spanking new Cpu by
netreaper
Check this out , I ordered a retail P4 2.4c Cpu from NEWEGG on 06/18.
It arrived at my doorstep this morning , So I'm looking over the
package it says pack date 06/06/03 , That baby was only 12 days old when
NEWEGG packed it to mail to me.
Talk about a up to date inventory , I'm one happy...

where's the multiplier? by
[email protected]
i see that new CPUs have the multiplier within. But I recall that old
board had a jumper for setting the multiplier. Am I then right in
assuming that the old CPUs that went in those old boards had no
multiplier of their own?
where do they get the multipiler number from like 10.5 or 9. A signal

Fan Controller and Fan causes floppy drive failure by
Andrew Diamond
My thesis, which will sound nutty, is the following: The use of my Vantec
Fan Controller to turn down the speed of my two intake 80mm case fans causes
my floppy drive to fail. I will defend this below but now for the setup,
pathology, and history.
Setup:
I recently installed a Vantec Silver...

65c+ temps at idle on celeron d 3.06GHz by
Luvrsmel
not overclocked but the system was given to me as a junker because of
"overheating." The bios was reading 90+C and I could only read it for a
second before the system re-booted itself. So I replaced the fan and HS with
a copper core intel HS and the temps are now in the mid 60's as according to...
