Intel D875 vs D865 by Alfa
Simple question , what is the advantage of the 875 over the 865 mobs. Is the speed difference that noticable. I'm looking at getting a new mob with 3.0Ghz cpu for gaming & video rendering just can't decide which way to go. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

Intel offices raided by Japan by Black Jack
This doesn't look like a typical case of AMD complaining to some authorities about unfair trade practices against Intel (those get typically ignored). This one seems to be of sources unknown, though they speculate that it could be political (Japan vs. America trade maybe). There was also some...

Intel trying to integrate Itanium and Xeon motherboards again by Black Jack
They are talking about 2007 at the earliest. Hopefully Itanium will last that long. http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,4149,1565228,00.asp?kc=EWRSS03119TX1K0000594 Yousuf Khan

Raid config ? by David Ciemny
Hi all..When I set up my two sata hard drives in a raid 0 config I chose a block size of 128k. I recently read somewhere that I would get better performance if the stripe size would be set between 16k and 64k. What are your thoughts and is it too late to change it without wiping out info store on...

Intel P4 3.2 Ghz by cj
I purchased a bare Intel P4 3.2 Ghz and have some questions regarding installation: 1. On the top of the chip, there is a black dot on one corner. This corner also seems to have a larger gold triangle on the corner of the black plastic. Does this represent the pin 1 location? 2. When...

Celeron M motherboards? by zxcvbob
Is anyone making motherboards with the i855 or i852 chipset for the new "Celeron M" processors? I'd like to build a low-power desktop PC in a small case, with a maybe one AGP slot and 1 PCI, and lots of onboard I/O. The only thing I've found is micro-ITX mobo for almost $500 w/o the processor. I...

Fluid flow benchmark -- help me choose CPU/mboard by H.W. Stockman
Would you help me by running a benchmark on AMD64 and P4 systems with dual-channel DDR? I am trying to decide on getting an Opteron or a P4 (875 or 865xx) dual-channel PC3200 system. Most of the machine's CPU cycles will be used to run just one program, which happens to be very...

Now AMD follows Intel's lead by Black Jack
AMD may begin adopting Intel's model numbering scheme for its own Athlon 64's. Strange, AMD adopts model numbers and then Intel follows, and then AMD retweaks to fit Intel. Well, so much for the PR-rating system being an indicator of relative performance from an Athlon Thunderbird....

We NEED an Itanium 3! by John Savard
I knew that the first Itanium chips were a bit on the weak side when it came to using them in 386-compatible mode. But I thought they fixed that with the Itanium 2. Also, I always thought that the Itanium was the logical next step for Intel, just like the 80386 was from the 80286. If they added a...
