- New AMD Athlon 2600XP CPU (older 266 FSB...

16x DVD ROM Bad? by
jm
Is 16x DVD ROM decent for base system? They sell them here and I have a
chance to get them with a rebate and end up paying 9.99. Can you read
regular CDs with a DVD-ROM drive? Thanks.
Actually, the only deal close to the one in salescircular.com was a CD-ROM
for 9.99 (which beats new egg 20.99,...

New mATX toolles case by
rAD
Just noticed this new mATX Evercase at Newegg. It's built like their regular ATX cases....toolless. Looks a little better tho.
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=E3275
It has pretty good cooling. Would go nice with an nForce2 board and LCD display.

Thinking about an MSI P4 board. Need help please! by
Rich Heimlich
I currently own an Athlon-based Soyo board I'm happy with and in the past I've
been an A-bit fan (not in a while though) and have never owned an MSI board.
Based on the recent Tom's Hardware round-up I was thinking of getting and MSI
865PE. I believe all I need is the NEO2 LS version. I only...

Where to purchase front panel connectors??????? by
Tom Young
Hi all:
I'm upgrading the motherboard in my Compaq Presario computer and I've
run into a slight problem. The Compaq uses some sort of proprietary
large "block" connector to attach the front panel pieces - power led,
disk drive led and on/off switch - to the motherboard. Naturally, the
connecting...

Sleeve bearing fans by
Adrian
Do sleeve bearing fans have that much of a shorter life compared to
ball bearing fans? I'm referring to case fans. I like the low dBa's
of the Papst fans, but I found out they are sleeve bearing, which I
believe doesn't last as long as single or double ball bearing
equivalents.

114.7 CFM Panasonic Panaflo Fan 120x120x38.5mm by
Davek
I'm looking for a case fans that push a lot of air without
being extremely loud. The noise level on this fan is listed
as 45.5 dB? Is that pretty bad? Also are the Panaflo's
high quality fans?
TIA

Do Older Power Supplies Support Modern CPUs? by
jim evans
I am thinking upgrading an AMD based box. I can't remember the CPU model name
but it's based on the AMD equivalent of a Pentium II and runs on 450MHz. I have
read things that suggest modern CPUs/motherboards require a better quality
power supply.
My question is, can I use the existing power...

SATA and Windows XP Installation by
Firejack
Hi.
I recently bought myself a brand spanking new Maxtor SATA HDD. I put it
into my system and booted from the Win XP CD. Only to find Win XP didn't
support my SATA controller. I rebooted and hit F6 and then I think it was
"s" to load a driver for my SATA controller during setup. Only to find...

It appears my shuttle MK35VN midi mobo has gone wrong, though I just
want to check if there's anything else I can try.
I bought it just 2 weeks ago and all was well, except that I couldn't
attach the front USB ports from my original case onto the USB3 outlet on

200 watt psu's are enough? by
Peter McVries
Was offered a shuttle machine recently which got me reading up on those.
Seems most have just a 200 watt psu depite being relatively decent machines
2+ghz, 512mb Ram etc. I know video/sound/lan is usually integrated and
there's only one DVD/CDRW drive but 200 watts seems *awful* low after
reading...

Do you guys just search and search for different suppliers? by
jm
Man this is hard work. I am looking here and there to beat shipping and
other stuff. I find a little cheaper here and there, maybe a dollar or two,
but it adds up.
Do you folks just stick to one supplier or use something like
http://www.pricewatch.com and look for the best deal?

[BIOS] Update for DFI CA63-SN/EN motherboard by
Dhakino Nzwange
Hi All,
Has anyone got a DFI CA63-SN/EN motherboard bios update that handle 512 Mb DIMMs ?
I want to upgrade my machine and the bios is reconizing my 512 DIMMs as 256 Mb ones.
I downloaded and applied all the bios updates provided by DFI on their site, but no
success.
Thanks,
DhN.
