I have just built my first computer and have managed (by following a guide)
to get it working and install XP Pro, but have come across a problem that I
can't find the answer to! I have entered the settings in Bios and used auto

Case Fan Speed Question by
Wayne
Thanks, Ozzy. I just looked up a review, that looks perfect. Do you get an
RPM readout anywhere or will I have to use my percision windsurfing
anenometer to measure air flow? :-)
Also glad the aeroflow works well.

Antec Sonata front panel ports by
Tahiti
The firewire/USB/audio ports on the Sonata case seem to support only
cards with headers specifically designed for connecting to the front
panel. Has anyone tried connecting to these ports by soldering header
pins to their cards?
What brand firewire card works with the Sonata case?

coming from the PSU which is to be connected to the front panel fan

Jumper switch for older CPU- need assistance by
Ron Joiner
I was given an Imagine computer with a P120 CPU by a friend and have set it
up as a 3rd computer (XPPro, 2000Pro,and Win 98SE) on a home LAN. All works
great.
However back in my closet was an old MB which had a P133 CPU. I decided that
a little more speed would help and installed it in the Socket...

favorite PC components vendors? by
Spoon2001
Any recommendations for PC components vendors, where particularly good deals
are available? For example, including components that are "previous
generation" but still quite usable?
My brother has had good luck with www.compgeeks.com and I just bought a
motherboard from them for $45. (I needed a...

Silence Seeker wrote:
Greetings,
I did find a silent mini-itx PC that ALMOST fits my needs: Absolute
silence (even the PSU has to be fanless), smallest footprint and front
USB/fire/audio jacks).

Building an IBM-PC compatible laptop. by

I have some experience building my own PC. I have no experience
whatsoever with laptops. An advertisement for the ASUS D1 wets my
appetite for building an IBM-PC compatible laptop. However, before
rushing into action, I would appreciate comments and suggestions from

PC133 RAM problems - advice please. by
Ian Roberts
Hi
I bought some new RAM ( 2 x 256 PC 133) last week and have had trouble
trying to get it to work on either of two PC's.
In one system, with an ASUS P2B motherboard, it seems that only one
half of each stick is being accessed. If I try them individually or
together I'm only getting half the RAM...

PC-Chips 810LMR and AMD 1800XP Chips by
Chris Allan
I have often used PC Chips 810LMR boards with Duron 1300 chips to build
simple cheap and stable machines. Never a problem.
The manufacturer says these boards support 1800 chips (and higher) but I
have had nothing but trouble. Sometimes they boot fine but quite often the
fans start and everything...

The main problem I have read about is using 400DDR RAM sometimes you have to
reduce the timings or use a different BIOS VERSION.
Of course the CDROM could just be bad or dirty.

Typical newbie "I'm building a computer" question by

Hello pleasant and benevolent folks (or something),
I have an oldish PIII 600 Mhz machine that I want to update (read: salvage a
few parts and build a practically new system). Obviously, that means the
motherboard and processor is gone, which also means I can't salvage the RAM.
I'm thinking of...
