both PC800-40. I bought 2 - 256 MB of RAM to install on my computer.
They are also PC800-40. When I install the chips, I get an error

Optiplex GX1 needs reset by
Andrew Burton
I've got an Optiplex GX1 that's locking up on the BIOS screen. The load
bar gets about 1/5th across, and the system just freezes. I unplugged
the system, pulled out the CMOS battery, and held the power button down
for twenty seconds -- as far as I can tell, this should have reset the...

Monitor problem with Sun Ultra 5 by
Andrew Stallard
I bought a used Sun Ultra 5 machine with a VGA video port to be used
with PC monitors. I can hear it POST and continue to subsequently boot
up, but the monitor remains blank. I thought I might need a new video
card, but the monitors (Yes, I have tried two of them!) I've used
first go to green, then...

PERC 2/SC failure and replacement by
Andrew Sternick
I admin an old Dell PE2300 with a PERC card running NT4. My trouble
is, the card itself failed. The underlying RAID 5 array is
(hopefully) unaffected. Of course, I cannot access it.
I have a new card on the way. I am wondering if I can save the
existing array and not have to recreate it or...

dead pixels by
andthen
If I order a 20" LCD online, what are the chances of getting one with no
dead pixels/subpixels and no lit pixels/subpixels? I know there are vendors
that will let you return a LCD that you are unsatisfied with for any
reason... but if the chances of getting a perfect one are low, then that
would...

Hi!
Could someone please explain why in the case of *mechanical* failure HD
becomes sometimes undetected by BIOS and/or the operating system (e.g. win xp

If it was an electronic failure then such behaviour would be obious, but why
the same happens with some mechanical failures? When...
