2 operating systems, device drivers by
Miori
Hi,
I have a PC with Windows XP and I'm going to add a 2nd HD to my PC and
install fedora on it (dual-boot).
My question is: will the 2 operating systems use the same device
drivers to interact with devices like CD-drive, sound card, video
card, TV card, etc? Or will each operating system use it's...

2 or 4HD to one USB setup? by
Impmon
Is there such thing as an USB controller that can handle up to 4 hard
drives to one? The reason I'm asking because I have need for more
space but my PC's a bit cramped and getting individual USB enclosure
would be more expensive than a single setup. I have an old AT case
with power supply and I...

Richard Lowen
I have one PCI IDE controller card installed, and I'm trying
to add another IDE channel to my PC. It turns out that both
makes of PCI IDE controller cards that I bought use the
same chipset (SIL680) and so they use the same BIOS and
IRQ and memory adrs, etc. Naturally, the resource conflict

2-board/4-drive Firewire enclosure doesn't like concurrent access... help! by
Spammay Blockay
I bought a 2-board/4-port 1394b enclosure for 3 hard drives and a DVD burner.
I found that the DVD burner and hard drive on the same controller wouldn't
work at the samt time.
Testing more, I discovered that when I tried copying between two drives (Say, A
and cool.gif on one of the controllers in...

The newer hard drives from WD and Hitachi are using a non-standard
drive height form factor. So I was wondering if there is a
compatibility list available for laptops.

2.5 inch enclosure failure as coincidence? by
DManzaluni
I bought a few USB 2.0 IDE enclosures on ebay for 2.5 inchdrives,
described as "new chipset" enclosures
They are very simple, and were cheap.
Curiously both have failed at the same time after about a year of not
particularly heavy periodic use. They have failed on all drives and
with similar...

2.5 to 3.5 adapter by

Spent a couple of bucks on an adapter to put a notebook drive in a
desktop, in one of those ya-never-know-when moments. Well after a
couple of years, I found I needed to test a drive this weekend. But the
3.5 inch male part of the adapter had too many pins. The female on my
desktop's IDE cable was...

2.5" HDDs bigger than 100 GB existing / to be expected soon ? by
GHL
Hallo,
does anyone know if there are already available 2,5" notebook EIDE/ATA HDDs
in a size bigger than 100 GB ?
If not, is it known whether the large manufacturers are already working on
them and intending to release them in the near future (i.e. 1Q2005) ?
Thanks.

2.5" Drive Enclosure by

I am considering building an external 2.5" USB drive unit using one of
those aluminum drive enclosures which are supposedly fanless using the
aluminum as a heat sink. What I'm wondering is how much heat build-up
there would be if I leave this unit always on powered by the USB
connection from my...

2.5" drive recommendations? by
ohaya
Hi,
I'm looking for a 100GB, 5400 RPM, 2.5" drive, and considering the ones
from Hitachi (5K100), Seagate (ST9100823A-RK), and Toshiba, and was
wondering if anyone here had any recommendations, especially relative to
reliability?
Thanks,
Jim
