Is my PC ok to run IE7/IE8 without slowing right down? by
nicola b
I've got an old PC running XP. It's not bad but it's not real fast.
AMD Duron 1800 cpu (approx like a 2100+ Athlon)
Via SV266A chipset on Syntax mobo
768MB SDRAM memory
Am still on Internet Explorer 6. Will my machine be ok to run IE7
or even IE8?
Is there a simple and honest...

J.Voorhees
I wish to copy a boot drive. However the Boot drives partition is
about 90GB where as the drive I am copying it to is about 80GB. The
thing is there is only about 50GB of data so I assumed it would be
fine. Unfortunately Drive Image wont let me do it unless the new
partition is bigger or equal to...

Boot Hangs at Splash Screen by
Perry Aynum
Upon booting my PC hangs at the XP splash screen. The splash screen fades
in, but stops. Normally it fades into bright and loads the OS. But here it
stops with a very faint screen.
It doesn't do it consistently but it is happening more frequently.
There is nothing noteworthy in the event...

I thought their warranty service was good up until now.
I am into my 34 month of the 36 month warranty and on the 4th replacement
monitor, now awaiting the 5th. The monitors have failed either mechanically
(stand) or now electronically (panel). Sam is now playing VERY hard to...

I have Win 7 64 bit installed on my laptop as well as my desktop. System

On the laptop, I have created a system image on blank DVD's using DVD-R's.
No problems -- I can restore from the DVD's.
However, when I try to create a system image on blank DVD-R's on...

What do you use your computer for?
What do you have now?
What do you plan on getting?
If you use your computer only for Internet and business, a 1.5 GHz CPU
with 512MB - 1024MB of RAM will seem as fast as anything else. OTOH

How Select HDD at boot? by
[email protected]
I have a MACHSPEED K8M800-8237 with AMD Athlon 64, 2.2 GHz CPU.
It has Phoenix Award BIOS V6, I think.
It has two bootable HDDs. I want to boot to each separately.
I have done this on another machine by using F8 during boot, and then
selecting the HDD from which I want to boot. It works fine.
Now...

TV as a monitor by

I have just got a new 40" LCD TV. It has HDMI and D-Sub inputs and I have a
new DVI-HDMI cable and a standard DSub cable.
Through D-Sub, I can get the TV to 1360x768 (or something like that) and all
is well. This is not the native resolution of the screen so doesn't look
perfect, but its Ok for...

Reliable CPU fan speed controller? by
JD
I have a CPU fan that runs all the time at around 4,100 rpm.
This is completely unnecessary when the weather is cool. I believe a speed
of about 3,000 should be ok at present.
Is there any such program around? I know about SpeedFan but I think
it's a primitive piece of work. The CPU needs a...

Hi Experts,
I remember about a year ago reading about very simple devices -
not much more than a tiny typewriter and an internet connection.
They would send and receive emails and could browse the Internet
and might serve as a small Internet radio or TV.
The people I am thinking of giving them...
