Skypond and Kabypond hyperthreading bug by
[email protected]
allegedly this was discovered a while back, so it can't be triggered too often.
Anyway I turn off hyperthreading as I doubt operating cisterns are proficient
at scheduling all the different processors (Bulldozer, Zen, HCC Xeons) as well as simple i5/Phenom II style CPUs.

Intel's super-dooper i9 by
[email protected]
It looks like AMD have caused Intel to pull their finger out at last,
after giving us teeny improvements the last few tick-tocks.
Must be worried about Threadripper, so they announce extreme i9 with
16 even 18 cores. But wait, they have only revealed half the specs....
How much cache will it have,...

who is using a Xeon Phi? by
[email protected]
Presumably this is the most cores sharing memory available,
about 60, but only 1-1.2 GHz each.
I guess it would need some tweeking of code that was written for
nodes of 6/8/12 CPUs.

How does the Skylake fix work? by
Mr Macaw
Just out of interest, how does a hardware bug in a CPU get fixed by a software BIOS update? Isn't the bug a physical misconnection in the circuits?

Xeon Phi multi-core mania by
[email protected]
I read in a gaming forum the other day that games do not use more than 4
cores because of diminishing returns.
Reminded me when I was in geophysics, and companies starting making clusters
out of Pentium IIIs about 2000. They had a few algorithms that needed
at least 10x the megaflops than the...

Are the i3-3240 and i7-3770k interchangeable? by
ArtReid
A friend who tried to upgrade his machine with the 3770k and it did not
work, however the i3-3240 did?
What we can’t understand is that is both are 1155's and Ivy Bridge
processors why would they not be interchangeable?

Broadwell lurch sorry launch by

So Intel are slipping out laptop CPUs first - not much faster than
previous generation. We have to wait until mid year to see the 45 Watt
desktop CPU.
Is 14 nm proving a bit difficult?
