2nd HD install question cable orientation by
GarySport
This is probably a dumb question but do hard drives have a "correct side up"?
i.e., does it make any difference whether the green circuit board side or the
metal side is upright in the computer? The reason I ask is I'm installing a
2nd HD in my 8600, and I noticed when I unplugged the cable from...

Dell Monitor 21" P1130 by
V@H
Hi,
Received my Dell P1130 21" monitor yesterday. It had brightness and clarity
issue. I couldn't figure out why it's so bad. I get a headache looking at it
for more than 5 minutes. Had to change back to my few year old P1110.
Today, I had another go, headache again. I had a look at the back of...

PII XPSD300 - HD size? by
John Smith
Hi,
I have a PII XPS D300 - once state of the art so be warned all you people -
running Windows 2000 Professional in which I currently have two drives. One
is 8GB and the other is 10GB I think.
Anyhow, I use this System solely as a data back-up to my main PC but both
HDs are now almost full so...

Dell Computers are Swindlers by
ai qing
I rang up Dell to buy a monitor after mine old one blew up. They told me
it was in stock and so I went ahead and ordered it.
The delivery date slipped a couple of times and I needed a new monitor
fast so I cancelled the order. Insight delivered one overnight.
I few days later I noticed that Dell...

Automatic Duplex Printing by
Jim Higgins
I currently have an HP970Cse with the duplexer module and have come to
regard the duplexer as a necessity. The 970's performance on text/graphics
is, to me anyway, excellent and I also like its photo performance with
photo paper.
My primary need is text and graphics printing with photo printing...

Drives Larger than 137GB on Dell Dimension 8100 by
Fallon
If anyone is interested in adding a drive larger than 137GB to their
Dimension 8100 system, here are my experiences. You can of course
readily accomplish this task by installing a PCI ATA controller card.
But if you don't wish to have a PCI slot occupied or simply prefer not
to install unnecessary...

Onboard sound - any good? by
Mongie
Just pricing a system up. Is the onboard sound ok (I only play mp3 files,
nothing else) or is the extra £30 for a SB 5.1 card worth it?

Power Light blinking but can wake up? by
Bosco Tsang
I have a Dell Dimension PC running Win2000 for over 2 years without
problem until recently. I've noted that after a period of idle, either
login or logoff, the power light sometimes will blink/flash and the
monitor light turns orange (no signal). As I understood, this means
that the system is in...

Noisy Fan on Dimension 4600 by
Somebody
Hi,
I have a noisy fan on my Dimension 4600, but how to be sure which one it is
?
I think that is the CPU fan for the P4 3.06.
Which kind of fan can i put instead of the original one keeping the rest
(heat sink, etc.) ?
Thanks in advance.

Inspiron 8500 + Win 2000 ??? by

As for as I know you will not be able to downgreade from XP. You will have
to do a fresh install of 2k.
You should have no problems doing so.

Info on Dell support by
MStepansky
I bought our Dell 4550 Dimension back in Nov 2002, with a 3-year support
contract. What is the best way to call them, let's say "Right now", to solve
any problem on our system?
Phone or/and email address would greatly appreciated.

No Soundfont Capability by
Ricky W. Hunt
I just bought a Dimension 4600. I had them install an SBLive (and they
"disabled" the onboard one and the one they installed is some 5.1 model, I'm
guessing some OEM version) because I'm going to use this computer for music
production and it usually works better if you have the soundcard on...

Dell 8300 by
HH
David,
The 8300 sounds like a lot more PC than you need. For surfing the net,
Internet phone, etc., save yourself a lot of cash and go with a 2350 or
maybe a 4600. I have a 4550 and run Photoshop, capture and burn DVD videos
and movies, etc. and it's more than up to the job. Just my opinion.
FYI,...

33KB/s PCI bus on XPS-R vs. ATA/133 HDs by
Roderick Samuels
Dell says the PCI bus on the Dimension XPS-R series
is 33KB/sec. The slowest PCI adaptor that Promise
makes is for a 66KB/sec bus. Does that mean that the
XPS-Rs are SOL for upgrading to today's ATA/133
hard drives?
