PB 286 parts found by
Ben Myers
I picked up a PB 286 at the town transfer station (that's town dump for those
who live in less snobbish towns) Saturday. It was pretty much stripped, but I
did pull the 286 motherboard, riser card, and ST-238R RLL hard drive. The CPU
is a 12MHz AMD 286. I also kept the wire leads to the...

Older Pentium class parts available by
Ben Myers
Anybody need matched sets of 4x32MB EDO 72-pin SIMMs or 233MHz Pentium MMX CPUs?
Found some in a corner today, in CPU boards long overdue for the recycler. If
interested let me know. Won't charge a lot, 'cause this is 2008. But cover my
costs and a little bit for my time... Ben Myers

Agreed, cookies are a royal pain in the arse. But Billy Gates is not the
culprit on this one. Tim Berners-Lee and his cohorts who invented the WWW
included cookies. You'll get cookies on Macs, Linux boxes, and any other

Take the high road. Tell him that you saved him $2.99 a minute for YOUR trouble
and that he can send you a recovery CD gratis for your help. That's a fair
trade in my book. Of course, if he's an ingrate, he'll refuse your suggestion
and lose out getting any sort of help from any of us in the...

Legend 402CD in hand by
Ben Myers[_2_]
Today, I was the proud recipient of a Legend 402CD in apparently good
condition, even with the original sticker on the top of the case telling
the specs. It is the usual square desktop chassis of the era.
Assumiong that this beauty is all original, it has a 75MHz Pentium
(worth its weight in...

Axcel 46CD obtained by
Ben Myers[_2_]
Just to stir up this group a little, I need to say that I got myself a
PB Axcel 46CD desktop system today. Customer housecleaning, along with
other work I did there. Haven't touched it yet to see if it powers up or
what is inside. Any interest in either the whole system or parts?
Assuming...

Packard Bell Model 820 sighted in good condition by
Ben Myers[_2_]
I collected a Packard Bell model 820 small tower computer today. This
is one of the first ATX form factor computers sold by PB, but it is
still a Socket 7 with a Cyrix CPU and 72-pin SIMMs. It has a SiS 5598
motherboard chipset. The hardware is complete and appears to be all
original, except...

PB 60MHz Pentium shows up here! by
Ben Myers[_2_]
A Packard Bell 60MHz Socket 4 Pentium system showed up here yesterday as
part of a collection of out-of-service computers. The desktop case was
pretty munged up, but the motherboard appears to be in good shape. The
system had the original PB Aztec full-length ISA sound card, but
somebody...

PB Pentium gear shows up! by
Ben Myers[_2_]
There in a pile of older computers was yet another PB desktop system,
again without the top like the last one.
This one has a nice Intel-made Pentium board with the later 430VX
chipset, a Pentium 133, a green heat sink, and jumpers to go up to
200MHz with a suitable CPU. The front of the case...

Legend 402CD by
Ben Myers[_2_]
Rescued an incomplete desktop Legend 402CD at the town transfer station
(that's the New England euphamism for town dump) today. No CPU, but
memory. Case incomplete, so pretty useless. Any interest in some of
the parts at the cost of scrap plus shipping? A quick look tells me
this is an...

I did not know that Acer owns the Packard Bell brand name. The fact
escaped me. Seems like Acer has collected a lot of brand names:
Gateway, eMachines and Packard Bell.

LPX motherboard booted up by
Ben Myers[_2_]
I cleared away the ATX clutter on my workbench today and booted up the
LPX motherboard I found in another clutter. It is an Intel-made board
with an AST BIOS signature and an Intel 430FX chipset. For those who
can't remember, AST was a trailing edge name brand, and they bit the
dust rather...

LPX motherboard found by
Ben Myers[_2_]
While going through my computer treasures the other day, I came across
an LPX motherboard, the kind used in PB systems. It's a Socket 7 made
by Intel. Not sure what CPU it has, and I'm not sure if it is a PB
original or from some other company like HP or NEC. This one has a VRM
socket on it,...
