Most processing power/Watt by
~misfit~
Something I've been thinking about recently, of the CPUs in the 700Mhz and
upwards range, which CPU, or family of CPUs gives the most for the least,
electrical-consumption-wise?
I'm running a few machines for SETI and am on a budget. I have a bit of
hardware and am able to decide which machines to...

ATI Radeon 9700 Pro - Any way to make it stable @89MHz? by
Rick
Just wondering if any hardware gurus have ever tried making an
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro stable at overclocked AGP speeds? I
have a BX-133MHz system and the 9700 croaks at much over
66MHz.
Any alternatives to just running at 100FSB (yuck) or switching
to an Nvidia card?

Memory dilemma by
Tony
I just put a new system together consisting of an Abit AI7, P4 2.6C CPU, and
1GB PC3700 RAM (two 512MB DIMMS). I bought everything from Newegg. I intend
to OC (as I have in the past with many other systems). My dilemma is that
Newegg sent me two Buffalo Tech PC3700 DIMMS, but one has Micron chips...

Intel vs. AMD by
Biker_Bry
Hehehe.
The threads get longer and longer.
The AMD is great for a hobbiest - great value, but look at the larger
picture.
How manny big businesses have put their servers and workstations in AMD's
camp? Not too many I'm sure. Our company has ALL Intel driven hardware.
I personally find the Intel...

Testing Prescott Celeron by
Alex
I want to test if a Prescott Celeron 2.4 GHz can run on Gigabyte 8IDX
i845 motherboard which officially does not support it. Can I possibly
destroy something by trying it?
Thanks,
Alex

P4E runs way too HOT! by
fish
I'm running a P4E 3.0 on an Abit IS7 main board.
With the stock HSF the temps were fairly high, in the low 50ºc. Case is very
well ventilated, it's a server 'rack mount' unit with a 120mm Panaflow
blowing in and across the board as well as an Enermax PSU. I built the
machine for some video...

Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA VIA PT880 Ultra.... by
~misfit~[_6_]
Oh well, after achieving what I consider to be a reasonable overclock on my
"non-overclockable" ASUS P5PE-VM getting my E4500 to 2.93GHz at stock
voltage it seems that I'm going to be getting an Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA VIA
PT880 Ultra anyway!
Here's me, quite happy with the P5PE-VM/E4500 @ 2.93...

Which cooler? by
MikeE
I'm looking at getting a cooler for my Tbred 2100xp (runnig at 2100mhz or
there abouts) , I have a standard coolermaster hs/fan at the moment and
getting 56c at load.
I was looking at the Coolermaster Aero 7+, Thermaltake Volcano 11+ and the
Vantec aero (leaning more towards this one)
Any advice...

Barton Sudden Death. :-( by
Nick M V Salmon
Hi all
The Barton 2500+ I've been running at 12x200 for 2400MHz at 1.85Vcore for
just over six months died this evening. :-( RIP. ;-) It's as though there
isn't any CPU in the motherboard at all - no beeps, no nada.
I am using a 220W Peltier in that machine - I found a few drops...

Pentium classic 166 @ 200MHz? by
Bracken
would this work? I'm not concerned about if it is unstable, as I can
just change it back to 166MHz.
But I want to know whether this risks damaging the CPU or not? I'd hate
to damage it. Thanks for help

Continued fan after system shutdown. by

Hiya,
I have a problem with a new system I've put together. It's an AMD 2600+,
but it seems to be running at about 55 centigrade (CPU) - not abnormally
high, but possibly a bit much. It's very unstable and what I'd like to
do is keep the system fans running for a few seconds or maybe a...

problems getting 2.8 over 3.1 by

motherboard is gigabyte ga8ik1100. no matter what I do I can't get this over
3.1. it is not a ram issue. I have pc3700 in and it has same problems as
pc2100 did. altering ram settings/ratio does not affect the problem at all.
I think its a buss issue with the sata drive. I use a single sata as c...

Fan Controller and Fan causes floppy drive failure by
Andrew Diamond
My thesis, which will sound nutty, is the following: The use of my Vantec
Fan Controller to turn down the speed of my two intake 80mm case fans causes
my floppy drive to fail. I will defend this below but now for the setup,
pathology, and history.
Setup:
I recently installed a Vantec Silver...

Possible uses of a 4GB ATA66 Hard disk by
daniel
Hello,
I am running windows xp home and I have aquired an older hard disk. There
seems to be no real use for a 4GB ATA 66 hard disk. If I use it as a
swapfile would it slow down my system (the other disk is ATA 133) ?
Possible options;
1. Experiment with linux
2. Swapfile
