SATA300 vs. SATA600 compatibility by
Norm Why[_2_]
Hi,
I have a 500GB Seagate Barracuda that comes with a 5 year warrantee. I'm
having problems where various files became corrupted and don't work. I've
exchanged it once. Seagate Tools said it was slow. Maybe I'm doing something
wrong under the assumption that SATA300 and SATA600 are compatible?...

cooling computer with refrigerator by
shegeek72
I've been thinking about blowing cold air into a puter case. Water
cooling only takes care of the CPU / GPU, while the other devices: HD /
CD / DVD, other MB chips, etc are left to fans. I know nothing about
cooling compressors, but what's the possibily of building a small
refrigeration unit and...

This burner, don't know what brand really, 48x16x48, suddenly stopped
burning CDR's .
Here's the log report. Any deciphering help would be appreciated. The
process starts and then at 51% it tanks and starts spitting out errors.

Cables Reproducing? by
John McGaw
It has to be that these things are breeding. There used to be a joking
theory that wire coat hangers were reproducing and trying to take over the
world but it seems that computer cables are in the game now.
Do you find that your stock of cables is expanding without your knowledge?
I just looked...

I seriously need help as I'm completely clueless as to what's the problem...
Problem: My friend wanted me to look at his computer as it looked like it
had gone, which it was. Got new hard drive (Maxtor 40GB Fireball 3 5400RPM)

Can Win8.1 laptop show CD movies? by
[email protected]
Or did the movies all come on DVDs?
The laptop is about 4 years old and came with W10 installed, which was
changed to W8.1, for G3-dongle compatibility.
It's got a HDMI socket, which the TV also has.
So would the video show on the TV? And what about sound?
What preliminary tests can I do with my...

My HP Deskjet 855C died tonight. by
John C.
Tonight I tried to print a grayscale portrait of my late uncle and aunt
on some nice, glossy photo paper. After waiting a long time for the job
to finish (the XP drivers for the HP 855C really suck badly), I was
astonished when the paper came out exactly as it went in... BLANK! This
was after...

Hard drive that boots elsewhere refuses to boot in this machine by
Simon O'Connor
I bought the pieces and setup a machine for a friend based on a Gigabyte GA
7VKML motherboard with the onboard Savage DDR video and AC 97 audio. He's
had this for a number of months and has been running Windows XP on it with
no problems.
Last week he had the PC on while he was watching TV in...

Windows 10 MAIL has a backdoor by
Norm Why[_2_]
I have a civil dispute with Psychologists in Brazil. A murder committed in
Canada is unethical in Brazil - Very controversial. Windows 10 Mail would
not permit me to send Mail to ethical potentates in Brazil. Thank goodness I
still have Outlook Express on WinXP. Microsoft backdoor defeated.

Questions about DDR RAM by
Igor
I'm planning to add some memory to a PC. The motherboard supports "DDR up
to 333 MHz (enhanced) memory bus."
333 MHz (PC2700) or slower DDR SDRAM isn't easy to find on today's market,
and when you do find it, it's considerably more expensive than the DDR
which runs at 400 MHz (PC3200). What...

4 cores by
micky
One of the watchwords of computers used to be that they only do one
thing at a time, and they just switch from one thing to another very
quickly.
However, now that cpu's have 2 or 4 cores or more, is that still true?
Does my cpu with 4 cores do up to 4 things at the same time?
Then, if it's...

Problem with built-in sound when upgrading by
Jon Greene
Hi all,
I am hoping very much that someone can shed some light on this mystery (to
me anyway). This is the third time I have run into this situation.
Someone has a system that they want upgraded; they also would like to keep
all of their currently installed programs intact.
I get a new...

eMachine won't keep time by
Menno Hershberger
I have an eMachine here with Windows XP SP3 that has a severe time problem.
For instance, it lost 57 minutes in the time it took me to run defrag on it
which was about an hour and a half. I just rebooted it and it lost 10
minutes. There doesn't seem to be any set pattern. I just rebooted it...

It hasn't been that long ago that they came with interchangeable face

Best video card for around $200? by

I'm not incredibly knowledgeable on video cards and have been
looking to get a new one. Currently, I have a geForce 420mx

are running slow. And it's not the PC because it's incredibly fast
for regular apps.
I've got an nVidia MB...
