USB Issue???? by
Bob
I have a new SanDisk 8 in 1 reader. When booting with this plugged in my CPU
utiliztion sits at between 75 & 100%. If I unplug it my utilization drops to
near 0%.
If I boot with out the device plugged in my CPU is near 0% and I can then
plug in with no problem - CPU use may rise a couple points...

Disk Confusion by
Bob
I have two removable drive bays which I have connected to the primary
IDE channel. This allows me to switch disks around at will, which is
necessary for cloning backups, using archive disks, etc.
There is a problem, however, because Windows gets confused. Usually I
can clean things up by removing...

Corrupt NTFS Filesystem by
Bob
Back in February 2006, I posted the following:
+++
Almost every time I reboot my Win2K/SP4 system, CHKDSK runs because
Win2K detected a "corrupt ntfs filesystem" on the boot disk. Every
once in a while I get a BSOD instead, in which case I have to move the
bad disk to D: and run CHKDSK manually...

Two devices per drive by
Bob
I am running Win2K/SP4.
I have an 80 GB IDE drive connected as chanell 0 master. It is the
boot disk with only one NTFS partition spanning the entire disk. The
label is "Sysyem".
When I look at My Computer, I see only 1 disk icon. The same is when
I look at Disk Manager. But when I use Win2K...

So, I'm about to take the screw off the RAM cover on my laptop:

However, I need to make sure I get the right screwdriver. Anyone know
what goes with that screw?
That's not a Phillips head, is it?

RAM Utilization by
Bob
If you have 1 GB of RAM with a 3.2 GHz P4 Prescott CPU, how do you get
WinXP Pro to use as much of that memory as possible?
For example are there tweaks which will increase the disk cache sizes,
and other things like that?
RAM is a terrible thing to waste.

PIII motherboards by
Bob
Are PIII motherboards still available?
My son, a college student, bought a mini-tower system from CompUSA several
years ago. It's a PIII 500 on a mini-ATX motherboard. Recently, it wouldn't
POST. My son took it to the pc doctor who diagnosed a blown capacitor on
the motherboard. My son explained...

DVD Bruner Question by
Bob
I burned 2 DVD's with software on my harddrive to make room for other
stuff. The odd thing is that one of the DVD's is accessible, whereas
the other isn't. If I take the inaccessible DVD to another system with
a DVD reader - it works. Any ideas?

new socket 478 motherboard. The only ISA boards that I can find are

Partition Utility by
Bob
Partition Magic 8 is worthless for my system. I have two HD installed
and both have the Active bit set. The BIOS is smart enough to know
that and allows me to choose which one I want to boot from.
Windows is not as smart - it issues a STOP0x9F POWER_FAILURE error
when I shut down, presumably...
