COPPER CPU SHIMS: The Definitive Answer !! by
rms
Ok, my gut feeling was that installing a copper shim was a mod that could
provide measurable benefits. My reasoning was as follows: Presently my
Maze3 waterblock is only slightly warm at the edges of the block, indicating
a large thermal gradient between the center water channel and the...

SATA vs. IDE by
Ransack The Elder
First off, I realize this is not a hard drive newsgroup. However, I never
visit any hard drive groups, and I know the folks here know what's going on
so I'll ask here...plus I have an AMD system :)
I just upgraded to a Chaintech motherboard with the Promise SATA controller.
I WAS excited about...

Socket A & 754 Sempron caution. by
Wes Newell
I don't know if this is well known or not but AMD has used different
criteria in giving the Sempron line of cpu's its PR numbers. So don't
buy a Sempron 3100+ expecting it to be faster than an Athlon 64 3000+.
Because it's nowhere close to as fast. AMD ommitted a bunch of the
benchmarks used for...

People still talking MHZ by
BF
I still hear people talking about Intel (MHZ) and
AMD (+) ratings. The bottom line is AMD processors
run faster (get more work done) at a given MHZ
than Intel and that is a advantage. Especially
when it costs less.
I have a 5.0L '87 Mustang. Back then I use to beat
the crap out of 5.0L Camaros and...

AMD 64 X2 4200 or 4400? by
Don Burnette
Hi all,
I plan on ordering either the AMD X2 4200 or the 4400.
There is about a 100 dollar difference in the price at Newegg, obviously due
to the 4400 having the larger L2 cache ( 1mb per core versus 512 kb per core
on the 4200).
Both are listed as 2.2 ghz processors.
I use my computer mainly...

10.20GHz Intel slated for 2005 by
Dave
The immediate successor to Prescott after it tops out at 5.20GHz will be the
"Tejas" core, also produced on a 90 nanometer process and delivering 5.60GHz
using a 1066MHz system bus. That's slated to start appearing towards the end
of 2004.
The first Nehalem is supposed to appear at 9.60GHz before...

Hello. I have just upgraded my MSI KT3 Ultra with a Barton XP2500+ and

Where do I find hostclk+33 in my BIOS (v5.7)? I can't find it....

Core 2 Duo - can I tell the difference by
Merrill P. L. Worthington
Being an average computer user and not a heavy gamer (only MS Flight Sim
2004 and soon X-Plane), will I be able to notice much of a difference
between my current Athlon 64 3700 (1gb CAS2 RAM) and 3800 machines (2gb

new overclocked scores by
Robert
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7880262
here is my lowly score of 8815, only a 200 point gain from 166fsb. I did
this taking ozone's advice and locking the agp to 66mhz. and I set my
settings to aggressive. I did do a second bench with timings at "optimum"
with no difference in score. I...

Don't get me wrong, been using Athlons forever.....I love them....here is my

I just started messing around with Pinnacle Studio 8 to create some DVDs

It takes **forever** to render the DVD.

help with motherboard choice by

I want to upgrade my cpu to an XP2800+. I've double checked and found that I
can't use my current board MSI KT3 Ultra.
I want a new motherboard then, still an MSI. I figure although most of my
other components aren't bang up to date, I may as well get the most advanced
I can. (I have 4x AGP card,...

Real World Performance - 512MB vs. 1GB System Memory. . by

Hi,
I was just curious as to your thoughts on the subject of system memory. I
currently have 2 x 256MB (512MB total) in my AMD system, but I am quite
tempted to swap-out these sticks for 2 x 512MB versions. I am running
windows XP Pro, and I intend to start learning Video-Editing where I will...
