DHL - Fedex slowdown by
Ron Hardin
On a returned Vostro 1500, Dell shipped the return
box from the local Fedex office, where apparently
there's a supply; so that's pretty fast.
But the return label is for PRP Ground Service,
so
1. Fedex won't pick up the same day you call
(``there's a mandatory one day delay'' said the
phone...

Are You Still Buying a 2nd Hard Drive? by
Daddy[_3_]
Another 'what is your opinion' question:
Given how big and how fast today's hard drives are...is there a need for
a 2nd internal hard drive (unless you're interested in RAID)? I can see
my next PC with one internal hard drive and an external hard drive (or
two) for backups and maybe NAS.

What was a Dell SmartPC? by
William R. Walsh[_2_]
In looking through Dell's support site for a computer from my past
(that I'd really like to find a working example of!), I ran across
something known as a Dell SmartPC.
The picture that Dell shows looks like a Dimension 2100 desktop with a
blue plastic front. Model #s given were 100D through 450D....

Tight Screws by
Ron Hardin
A (apparently) motherboard died in my Vostro 1500.
The chat guy asks me to remote optical drive, HD
and RAM and try powering it on.
I got the optical drive out.
I got two screws of the HD out. They were tight,
and released with a loud ``crack'' when they
started turning. Do they...

SDHC data cards in a Dell 9100 by
richards[_3_]
I have a Dell Dimension 9100, bought in August 2005, with a card
reader for CF, SD and other cards. It won't read High Capacity SD
cards, such as the 16 GB cards I am using in a camera. I am not sure
if this is hardware limitation, or whether it could be resolved with a
driver update. It isn't a...

OK, I know this is a Dell group, but I figure you guys would know about

They had a 4-hour special sale at our local Meijers (like Walmart) store.
They were selling Acer One Ultra Portable for $345. It has a 8.9" screen, 1
gig memory, and 120 gig hard drive. It comes with a mouse and...

Ron Hardin
There's a bunch of XP Home Vostro 1500's 2GHz
120GB 2GB for $499 at the outlet, which is a

I'm in the market for a new gaming computer capable of running the latest
