which disk size should I use? by
J&J Guzman
I have the option of using 146GB drives (instead of 72GB) on my SAN
(FAST700), but am afraid of disk contention issues and rebuild times (raid
5) if one of my drives goes bad. Does anybody have any opinions on these
matters?
thanks

Arcserve 9.01 SCSI problem by
Tony Cummins
I've recently purchased a copy of Brightstor Arcserve 9.01 for Netware to
replace Backup Exec v9.0 for Netware. I'm connected to an HP Surestor 20/2
DLT 8000 tape library unit via two AHA2940 scsi cards.
When I load Arcserve on the server I only see the robot (C7200-8000) and one

incredibly overloaded disk subsystem by
aDF
per MS, disk queue length values as measured by PerfMon on Win2K should be
very low (1-2), or you're experiencing I/O issues.
well, we have an app powered by an Oracle database that's constantly getting
hammered. We routinely measure queue lengths in the hundreds on up to the
6,000-7,000 range. ...

iSATA? by
[email protected]
Given that we have IP encapsulated version of SCSI and FC, it would
seem natural that there would be an IP encapsulated version of ATA or
SATA. But, thus far, I haven't heard of such a protocol. Does one
exist? Are there reasons it couldn't/shouldn't?

iSCSI drivers for Windows by

I've been searching old threads for iSCSI info, and was excited to
learn that people are doing iSCSI over plain old 100MB ethernet with

Snap 1100 Linux Replacement by
John Ingram
The Snap Server 1100
(http://www.snapappliance.com/page.cfm?name=1100Main&nav=1100) is a
cute little box, a little bigger than a brick, that is sold as a file
server or NAS box (80 GB disk). It qualifies in my mind as
"appliance", because it only has an ethernet plug and no other inputs
