PLINK @#$%ing center pin in Inspiron 6000 charger snapped off by Thomas G. Marshall
Ok, a couple questions about this. The DC end of the charger (adapter) is a barrel connector with a center pin that seems pretty dang thin for the job. I've always been suspicious of that things ability to tough it out over time. It's missing, and a small amount of it fell out of the notebook...

"Automatic DNS" with Windows ME -- is it possible? by Phred
G'day mates, Being one of those losers stuck with Telstra Bigpond as an ISP, and an ancient PC (Dell 4100) without sufficient memory to run Windows XP, I find myself in a bit of a quandary... Bigpond has recently issued an ultimatum to change to "automatic DNS" or be forever condemned to talk...

"Critical Update For Your Dell Computer" by Daddy[_4_]
I was out of the office last week, and someone left a voice mail saying there is a critical update for my Dell computer. Although they left a phone number, I didn't call back, presuming it was a scam. Nothing on Dell's website about it, and they didn't call again, so I guess it was a scam,...

"Dell Inspiron SmartStep 250N" with Bad Battery by Dave Elliot
Has anyone else had or heard of problems with the "Dell Inspiron SmartStep 250N" and its rechargeable battery. I believe that the current recall of batteries does not apply to this unit. Of course I am assuming that it is the battery and not the recharging section . Any way to check it without...

"Forced" back to XP, loving it by journey
One of my laptops became corrupted yesterday. I was running Vista Business on it. I changed a battery but (duh) forgot to plug it in first, so it was an abrupt shutdown of the OS. When I tried to reboot the registry was corrupted and I couldn't repair it. So, I took it as an "opportunity" to...

"Free to a good home" - Dell D-port Docking Adapters & AC adapters by Bob Pownall
Since replacing my Dell Inspiron 8500, I have no need for my two Dell D-port Docking Adapters (Advanced Port Replicators? model # PRO1X) and my two Dell 90W AC adapters (PA-10 family). If you want them, they're yours for the cost of postage to mail them. Note: I'm not 100% sure the docking...

"Google" Sidebar in New Inspiron by Monica
Helped my dad set up a new Inspiron (530 or 540??). I don't have the Vista OS yet so it was all fairly new to me. I've worked with Vista just a little on my daughter's computer. I was surprised to see that the "sidebar" on dad's computer was a Google Sidebar. A couple of days later I find...

"Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done" message after WinXP install by [email protected]
I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 and after I installed WinXP SP2 I noticed the flash message "Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done" to the screen right before the WinXP boot login logo. Does PBR have something to do with the primary boot record? WinXP desktop loads and nothing seems to be wrong with...

"OEM Partition" & Recovery partition on Dell Win7 PC by Timothy Daniels[_4_]
I've been reading about the 100MB System Reserved Partition (SRP) that the Win7 installation disk makes that contains the boot files. But on my Dell Precision T3500 workstation that has Win7 Pro 64-bit pre-installed, there is one 39MB mystery "OEM Partition" and a 750MB NTFS Recovery partition...
