The chance to break into Dell's supplier chain has passed. by
Robert Myers
Fellow AMD admirers ;-),
Googling to see what anybody had to say about intel and cis turned up
this bit on AMD

AMD64 = IA-32e by
Black Jack
Regarding whether Intel is going to be using the AMD64 language or not, and
answer is not, it's using the IA-32e language. Other than the name it's
exactly the same as AMD64, right down to the number of registers, and lack
of support for Virtual-8086 mode, etc.
Here is AMD's AMD64...

My lack of enthusiasm for AMD by
Robert Myers
I now have a machine with AMD processor: 4600+, dual core, 2.4GHz. No
smoke coming out of the back yet.
I bought it because it had the features I needed at a price that was
too attractive to resist. No other reason.
When I turn this into a Linux box, I'll have to figure out what Intel
has done...

Dell has said that it does not want to raise prices on its systems any
more than what it normally does with any other new CPU introduction.
With Intel expected to ask upto 90% per dual-core CPU than single-core,
either Dell is going to have raise its prices, or Intel will have to
reduce its. My...

64 bit AMD pro's and con's ? by
steve h.
Hi,
TIA for your informative replies. My friend has advised me not to
purchase an AMD 64-bit processor at this time, citing concerns with
severe software incompatibility except for MS Server 2003 and Linux 64
bit OS'es. What are your experiences ?

Intel backs away from FB-DIMMs by

Intel pulls back from FB-DIMMs
"Intel is telling everyone who will listen that they are going back to

I've (finally) hopped on the Wi-Fi bandwagon, and bought, among other

Problem is, the PCI card is properly detected on my recent motherboard

I once actually learned something from this group by
Robert Myers
I came here a bit before the P4. The architecture of P4 seemed right
to me: highly-pipelined, clocked fast, and with big bandwidth to
memory. I didn't really understand about the trace cache, but I soon
learned. I was an early adopter, and I was disappointed.
The reasons for my disappointment...

64 bit chips and software ??? by

I was wondering if someone could maybe elaborate a little on the new 64 bit
processors that are comming out soon and how they will most likely affect
us.
First I'm wondering, can software written for the 64 bit processors run on
our current 32 bit ones? If not, what timelines do the big companies...
