Gateway to use AMD again? by Ed
Hints from a confidential document coming from AMD itself, give us clear sign of the imminent return of Gateway as a prominent AMD distributor of the newest 64-Bit compatible products (Athlon 64 and Opteron). We have no clear indication of when, where and how it will be announced but there are good...

512MB RAM Chip: Incompatible?? by Keith Rhoda
I am a little sketchy on this, but check the order that the chips are put into the sockets. On My Hewlett Packard, I have mixed chips and was told that the order counted. I apparently got it right the first time. HTH, Keith "Kyle" wrote in...

Does memory bank order matter? by Sabyasachi Basu
While assembling my PC with an Intel D845GEBV2, I put a 512 MB RAM stick in bank 1 and left bank 0 empty since I had plugged in the AGP card first and the AGP retention mechanism was occuluding memory bank 0. Though everything seems to be working fine, I wonder if there are any performance issues...

Anybody selling Iwill DK8S Opteron boards in the US? by G. Hugh Song
It seems that they started selling it in Asia. Is Iwill DK8S selling here in the US? It appears only MSI Master-F is selling among all the announced motherboards for Opteron 2xx series CPU's. Beside MSI, is anybody really selling Opteron boards in the US? Thanks.

AMD Duron and Duron Mobile compatible? by K-Ray
I have a broken Compaq Pressario 716EA with an AMD Duron 'Mobile' 1200. I have reason to believe the cpu is causing the trouble. To be sure I want to check by swaping the cpu with a working one, but I only have a common Duron(DHD1000AMT1B) and an Athlon (A1400AMS3C) avaible. I didn't find enough...

The Japanese vector supercomputer by Felger Carbon
I bring to this posting considerable humility. I've been very curious about the Japanese Earth Simulator vector processor, in particular the length of any given vector module. Today, an article on nanowires from the Hot Chips conference gave (or implied) some of this information. Question: am I...

945G/GL Chipsset and Windows 98 by darkrats
Does anyone know of drivers that will work with the Intel 945G/GL chipset and Windows 98. I'm speaking about the First Edition of Windows 98, not Windows 98SE. I've tried a number of drivers discovered on the net, but so far without success. Intell provides drivers only for the Second Edition of...

How long does a thermal paste/grease last for Intel P3 CPUs? by [email protected]
Hi. I am wondering. How long does one thermal paste/grease last for a Pentium III 600 Mhz CPU (Katami/Slot 1)? I noticed that a year ago I had to clean the CPU's old grease/paste and put a new supply. After a year, my computer started crashing when in stress (e.g., compiling and getting too hot;...
