Athlon 64 thermal interface material by Grumble
Hello everybody, According to several websites, boxed Athlon 64 CPUs come with a thermal pad (A.K.A. phase-change material) pre-applied on the heatsink. e.g. http://www.madshrimps.be/printart.php?articID=135 "Also interesting to know, this heatsink has some sort of thermal pad pre-applied....

Low-end PSUs always dissipate the max rated power? by Grumble
Hello everyone, I'm rather confused over something I was told today. Low-end PC power supply units always dissipate whatever power they are rated for, e.g. a 400W PSU will always dissipate 400W whether the system is idle or not. If the system does not need the power, then that power is dissipated...

Case fan air flow by Jon
Which direction should the air flow on a case fan? I have it sucking in but find no difference in the cpu or case temperature. The manufacturer (Enermax) indicates it's reversible, but the speed control knob doesn't appear to be removable. Does anyone else use Enermax? Jon Cosby

CL2.0 & CL2.5 help by Andrew Clarkson
I just purchased a Ramses 256mb PC2100 266MHz memory chip, to accompany (I thought) the 256mb chip already in my machine. Trouble is, the one in my machine is CL2.0, the new one is CL2.5. Any way to resolve this in the bios or externally? Thanks! :)

First Athlon64 X2 benchmark by Rob Stow
Ed wrote: The test I have data for is CineBench 2003's CPU test, which is one of those rare benchmarks which can make use of multiple CPUs and thus shows a dual core part in its best light. For comparison, we can see how an Athlon64 X2 4800+ fares against a single core Athlon FX-53, as well...

Lots of non-server benchmarks he http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q2/opteron-x75/index.x?pg=1 They put the dual-core 2.2 GHz Opty 175 and 275 through a bunch of non-server tests. I expect AnandTech and XBitLabs to come up with some server numbers very soon. What impresses me is that a 2.2...

RAM memory problem (CAS latency) by Wizard of Ozz
After researching the subject for 3 hours, here's my question: I had a Pentium III 550 Mhz computer for the last 4 years, running Windows 98. Last week I installed XP on it. The old 64 MB RAM was barely keeping up. So I bought 128 MB RAM. Both memory sticks are working, so I have 192 MB RAM, and...
