Illegal Immigration, the Non-Issue of the Week?????????????? by
Expert Humor
The way our politicians rushed to talk about
illegal immigration this week, maybe they thought it
came with a free lunch. They won't do anything about it,
but it will get them some money. The Expert provides
the details at:

"SAN FRANCISCO (Business 2.0 Magazine) - Smarthouse, an Australian
trade publication, is reporting that more than half of Windows Vista
will have to be rewritten. The problems are so severe, Smarthouse
claims, that the newly reorganized Windows group is pulling in
programmers from Microsoft's Xbox...

Remote switches by
Season BubbleGirl - BubbleGirl.net
Hi,
I have severe allergies and so use my desktop computer through a glass panel. At the moment I need someone to turn it on for me. However, I'd like to buy a part for my PC so I can turn it on with a remote or something similar instead. Can this be done? Our regular TV remotes work through the...

No one replied so thought I'd apply abit of keyboard tapping. Well,
obviously the faster CPU with the faster FSB is gonna be better, but
I feel the only differance will be noted when gaming etc, another
question would be will the mobo handle it with out...

Dell purchases Alienware? by
Allan Parent
I just saw this in the morning paper and was totally surprised. Was
this in the works for a while? At least Dell will now get to
distribute AMD CPU's...although at a distance.

Cost Reduction From Soldered-on CPUs? by
tony
How much would soldered-on CPUs reduce the cost of motherboards?
In as much as memory modules seem to only work for one generation
of motherboards, how much would soldering on, say, 1GB of RAM
reduce costs? (By "reduce cost", I mean as compared to the total of
an equivalent motherboard with...

Well, here's a case about a CIO with absolutely no experience with

AMD attacks DDR-II latency problems by
YKhan
DDR2 is negating the advantage of internal memory controllers. L3 is
now more than just an academic possibility, to claw back all of that.
(More than likely ZRAM L3 as other stories have stated.)

Single-sided DIMMs by
DIMMs
Are these readily available, because so far I've only been able to find
double-sided DIMMs.
From the dual channel perspective, single-sided DIMMs seem to be the way to
go, yet they appear scarce.

Memory woes by

PCCHIPS P25G mother boards with an Intel 478 3.4GHZ chip installed. In
each system is (2) 512MB PNY DDR400 memory modules. Three of the
systems reboot with heavy memory usage after about 15 minutes. Once
Windows XP reboots it...

Turned from Pentium to AMD Athlon! by
rapscallion
You should see a nice improvement in speed, and AMD's chips are
typically a bit cheaper than their Intel counterparts.
But as far as Intel vs. AMD? It all depends on the benchmarks and the
benchmarks all depends on the applications you're running on them.
To me, the AMD vs. Intel arguments remind...
