Shameful CPU Pricing by
aether
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80829&ps=ho3
Is this suppose to make sense to customers? Nearly a grand for a single
processor? Is this some sort of joke?

Researchers create laser light interconnects on silicon by
Jan Panteltje
Researchers create laser light interconnects on silicon.
Channels etched in silicon are used to guide IR laser light generated by
a bonded indium phosphide layer that is electrically activated.
Thse optical on chip interconnects could lead to 100x faster interconnects.

"TLB parity error in virtual array; TLB error 'instruction"? by
Ant[_3_]
Hello.
Lately, I have been getting random and rare kernel panics on my old
Debian/Linux box (tried both Kernel versions 2.6.30 and 2.6.32). I
couldn't figure out what it was until I discovered mcelog a couple days
ago, and it revealed interesting scary datas in my dmesg/messages and
syslog:

Apple Dumps IBM/ Does Apple Have A Secret Plan? by
Seydou Bangoura
As part of a college assignment, my colleague and I were asked to do
research on Apple switching to the Intel microprocessor. Here is a
result of our findings
http://www.mochima.com/net/apple_intel
In brief, we found that there is a lot of speculation in regards to the
implications of the switch....

Athlon 4 XP-M 2400+ ? by
A. J. Moss
I've just bought a new laptop with an Athlon 4 XP-M 2400+ CPU.
When idling, the CPU runs at 1.06 GHz; when working flat out, it runs
at 1.79 GHz (according to Windows XP). Surely this would make it an
XP-M 2200+ CPU? If the advert said it's a 2.0GHz CPU, should I send
the damn thing back?
Also,...

Questions about DDR RAM by
Igor
I'm planning to add some memory to a PC. The motherboard supports "DDR up
to 333 MHz (enhanced) memory bus."
333 MHz (PC2700) or slower DDR SDRAM isn't easy to find on today's market,
and when you do find it, it's considerably more expensive than the DDR
which runs at 400 MHz (PC3200). What...

AMD patent about inverse hyperthreading by

There was some speculation about AMD working on a mechanism that would
allow a multiprocessor/multicore system to gang-up the cores and use it
to execute single-threads much faster, also nicknamed as inverse
Hyperthreading. I think you could even call it "micro multithreading",
since it's finding...

Pentium Pro 200 - 256k cache vs 512k & 1MB cache by

I recently picked up a circa 1996 all SCSI Micron Millennia Pro Plus
in like new condition for $40. It was supposed to be a dual PPro 200
but when I got it home and opened it I was disappointed to find it
only had a single PPro 200 256k processor installed, 32MB of memory
and a Bus Logic SCSI card....

Some early benchmarks for P4EE by
Yousuf Khan
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11670
Ace's Hardware seems to be seeing between 2-15% improvement from the 2MB L3
cache.
Ace's will also be doing a head to head against processors from a "rival"
processor manufacturer in a couple of days, when their NDA expires. Stay
tuned.
