Is Itanium the first 64-bit casualty? by
mivpl
Interesting reading here, and very common-sense. Itanium may be the next
casualty in the 64-bit wars, when Itanium was the one that caused the 64-bit
wars to start in the first place.

Microsoft lays down the rules about 64-bit by
Yousuf Khan
AMD introduced the Athlon 64 today, and Microsoft was on hand to intro its
64-bit Windows too. Microsoft said that it will support both Intel and AMD
64-bit, but no more than that. I think what they are referring to when they
talk about Intel 64-bit is Itanium, but no other 64-bit that Intel...

Intel follows the margin by

Hey,
Anybody sobered up yet from the over-the-weekend I-told-you-so parties
yet? ;-).
Before you decide to load up any more than you already have on AMD and
to short any more than you already have on Intel, consider this:

Why was Intel a no-show on No Execute? by

NASA seizes new Opportunity after losing its Spirit on Mars by
Poppa Capp
Yeah, the sorry USA space junk known as Spirit broke down - attributed
to the flash memory. NASA should have sprung those extra bucks and
gotten Kingston memory instead of that sorry ass IBM proprietary ****.
The Russians can have (another) laugh at our expense.

Non-intel benchmarks on Conroe vs AMD's AM2 FX62 by
The little lost angel

Well, it doesn't look like smoke and mirrors anymore does it? :P
The bit I'm curious about is, is there any mistake in the Sciencemark
2.0 latency results? Without an onboard memory controller, the Conroe
E6600 is faster than the FX-62....

It sounds like a desperate attempt by a competitor to discredit a
successful campaign. However, looking at the details they are indicating
that only people who travel in airports regularly know about Centrino,

ex-Apple CEO says they should've gone x86 in the 80's by
Yousuf Khan
Apple's ex-CEO John Sculley said that they were evaluating
Intel-architecture in the late 80's, and decided that it couldn't keep
against RISC processors, so they went the RISC route. They didn't count on
the evolutionary process eventually putting x86 on a par with...

BTX Technology/Native Command Queuing by

After 2 Gateways (with poor peformance records), I decided to go for a Dell.
I'm not a techie so an above average 'puter for the masses is what I wanted.
Some questions still need answers, though. For example:
1) Gateway (not Dell) offers BTX Technology. Is this something most companies

AMD offers no motherboard: why? by

I think I know why: becuase it followed the path early on to allow
3rd parties to make the motherboards and now it's worried about
the relationship with those vendors. If AMD offered it's own board,
yes it would hurt the 3rd parties, but it's own profits would soar I
think. AMD recognizes the...
