Another AMD supercomputer, 13,000 quad-core by .Some.Guy.
The new computer, to be built by Sun Microsystems Inc. using 13,000 microprocessors made by Advanced Micro Devices Inc., will be more powerful than any supercomputer currently in operation, UT says. It will have a peak computing power of more than 400 trillion operations per second, which makes it...

Intel Q3 market share by Felger Carbon
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,113298,00.asp It seems Intel's market share went from 81.4% in Q2 to 82.6% in Q3. At this rate it will take another 3.625 years for Intel to achieve a 100% market share. At that point we can stop arguing over whether Dell should be forced to sell AMD...

AMD accuses Nvidia of disabling multi-core CPU support in PhysX,to make GPU's look better by Yousuf Khan[_2_]
AMD has accused Nvidia of corrupting the PhysX API, making it unable to use CPU resources properly, when prior to Nvidia's purchase it could easily make use of these resources. Nvidia denies this, saying that it's upto the application developers to make use of CPU resources explicitly. Yousuf...

Intel takes back lead in U.S. retail by Yousuf Khan
Looks like the price cuts that Intel did have worked for it. Not too bad, but it's certainly not back at the 90%+ marketshares it had in retail in the not too distant past. It's never going to get to those levels ever again, not with the anti-trust lawsuit hanging over it. Intel takes back lead...

Windows 7 oem vs retail Can the less expensive oem version be installed by a DIY person like me? I'm interested in the 64 bit Pro version of Win 7 due to it's lower cost; recently $140 from Newegg Is a separately purchased key or something else like that needed?

Dell, gateway etc.. never choose AMD why? by jdobb2001
AMD seems to offer more back for the buck but it seems that they never offer desktops with AMD cpus. I seriously doubt people buy off the shelf PC's based on CPU brand since DELL etc.. are now commodity products and they choose on features and price not INTEL or AMD. Selling PC's as 64bit in the...

Striping data across platters in a single hard disk by tony
Why don't hard drive manufacturers figure out a way to stripe data across the multiple platters in a hard drive to get greater throughput? It seems to me that if you have multiple heads and platters you should be able to multiply the throughput to some extent based upon the number of...

Intel faces pricing dilemma from Dell by Yousuf Khan
Dell has said that it does not want to raise prices on its systems any more than what it normally does with any other new CPU introduction. With Intel expected to ask upto 90% per dual-core CPU than single-core, either Dell is going to have raise its prices, or Intel will have to reduce its. My...

Any hot key for ami bios to boot from floppy? by stinpag
Such a key combination, if exsists, will save us the trouble of changing the boot device priority for floppy from cmos. Does it exsist? "Ctrl+Home" does not work if the floppy is not for re-flashing.
