Formatting a hard disk and handling of suspicious bad sectors by
Man-wai Chang to The Door (24000bps)
When I right-clicked a hard disk in Window$ and hit Format, was it the
hard disk controller that took over to format a particular sector on the
disk? Or was it the OS?
I wanted to reduce the fault tolerance level of the formatting process
such that it would mark a sector as bad when there was...

How to display size of $UsnJrnl on XP? by
George Orwell
Am interested to display the size of the $UsnJrnl on an XP partition.
How can I do this?
I think some app has set journal logging on for one of my partitions.
My defragger often reports that $Extend\$UsnJrnl:$J is in several parts
but doesn't show it's size.
Is there a way to tell which apps...

WD mybook usb drive failure by
sobriquet
Hi.
Does anyone know how important it is for an external drive, like a WD
'mybook' external usb drive, to be in a horizontal or vertical
position during operation?
In the manual, it says it's important not to treat the disk as a
portable device, not
to move the disk during operation and some other...

The following software provides terminal access to various Seagate
hard drive models. This demo version is read-only, which means you can
read from the SA but you won't be able to write to it.

Why isn't the sector reallocating? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
Here's the SMART report from Everest about this drive. It's got one
Pending Sector, one Offline Uncorrectable Sector, and one Reallocated
Sector already. So one sector got reallocated, while the other one is
pending and/or uncorrectable. What would the explanation for this be?
