Grrr tech support by
Ron Hardin
Idiot dell phone tech rep
Latitude 6400 crashes once every two weeks
Diagnostics find ram error, very intermittent.
I say send me two new mem chips and i'll send back
the old ones. If it fixes it, then it's good.
If not, it needs a new motherboard.

driver update reasons? by
Timothy Daniels[_4_]
Does anyone know where to find info on why a driver
or BIOS should need updating?
The Support page for my Precision T3500 lists a whole bunch
of drivers that are "Recommended" for updating. One, the
"Dell-Utility" driver, is even rated "Urgent". My BIOS is one in
the range of A07 to A09, and...

Dimension 8300 motherboard into Dimension 4500 by
[email protected]
My folks' trusty Dimension 4500 recently was the victim of a well-intentioned attempt to upgrade the RAM (DDR2 meet DDR slot, proceed to burning smell and three-beeps-no-POST-joy). I want to return it to service by replacing the motherboard with that of a Dimension 8300, as I have read about many...

(OT) Multiple hard drive wipe utilities question... by
S.Lewis
.....does anyone know of a utility that will DoD (or even simple 0's
overwrite) multiple hard drives in parallell rather than sequentially
(thereby saving considerable time)?
In a perfect world, the utility would need to work with IDE/SATA/ and
SCSI.....
Yeah, asking a lot I know. Please post...

Direct3D compatibility gone in Windows 7 by
TS742
I have a Dell SE198WFPv monitor. I'm trying Windows 7 on a computer
that used to have Vista. Things worked well in Vista as far as
Direct3D, however since I have 7, it is no longer Direct3D compatible
(for screen savers). Has anyone else had this problem. I'll keep
looking for the answer on...

SATA 3 motherboards by
Brian K[_3_]
Does Dell make any computers with these motherboards? The computers I looked
at mentioned SATA 3.0 and a Dell rep mistakenly told me that it meant SATA
3.

has a latitude unlimited life time? by
[email protected]
Following my question about the sudden death of my 5 years old latitude, I have tried to call Dell support several time. After waiting long time, I decided to try an email. But I got a surprising answer: Dell doesnot provide email support anymore.
So my conclusion is that Dell is not interested in...

Power vault 114X by
[email protected]
We've just bought a power vault 114X tape enclosure for running off backups..
I'm quickly starting to think we've made a big mistake, firstly we need a SAS connector to actually connect the device up to anything; that's proving difficult at the moment! and then I'm doubting how we'll actually use...

Interesting Buying Experience with Dell by
Larry[_12_]
Four years has passed since I bought a new Dell and I was thinking it
might be time for an upgrade my xps laptop. Having purchased laptops
from Dell in the past I decided on a desktop particularly the
XPS8500.
In the past I usually built my own desktops so I always knew what
components were...

720p and 1366x768 Resolution by
Boris[_5_]
Hi,
I bought a 15.6" Dell laptop for my in-laws, and it was advertised as
720p.
http://tinyurl.com/84hhnbu
I had assumed that the native resolution would be xxxx X 720. But, it
automatically set itself to 1366 X 768, and there was no selection for
anything like xxx X 720. I was not...

Dell workstation series by

Have been buying workstations for 10 or 15 years, and now it's time for
another one. The history is, starting with an old Gateway platform that
dual booted from SCSI or IDE... Dell 610, Dell 670, and now?
Looking at the 690, the 3500, and 5500. What is the progression?
where can I find a...

Firewire 800 adapter for Precision 670 by
[email protected]
I'm looking for a suitable 1394 Firewire adapter for the Dell 670
Workstation that will plug into a PCIX slot. IIRC the PCIX is 64-bit,
and that's what's needed for 800 MBps?
The 670 already has Firewire but it's 6-pin and 400 speed. My new
Passport Studio has Firewire 9-pin jacks. It could work...
