How Do We Actually Use the On/Off Button of the LaCie Drive? by
maria
I understand that we can switch the power On and Off
of the LaCie drive. We switch it off when we do not plan to use it.
However, don't we have to STOP the drive before we switch it off?
As you all know, it is virtually impossible to STOP it unless
we reboot the machine and it is the first thing we...

I would like to know which raid level is the best for Write operation.
I am considering Raid 0, Raid 1 , Raid 0+1, Raid 10, Raid 3, and Raid 5.
Also, are there any Raid Storage support Raid4, except NetApp?

Agami by
Michael Kramer
I'm looking at replacing a slew of legacy Netapp filers (F760, F880, etc)
and am considering Agami among others. NAS virtualization is not an option
as most of the filers are in pocket networks.
Anyone have experience with Agami or similar?

performance degradation backing up small files by
alan
Has anyone experienced performance degradation when backing up large
volumes of files from a NAS array? I am researching complaints that
backing up large volumes of small files (128k)results in a noticeable
performance drop. One suggested solution was to segregate small files
and back them up over...

How would you store 100TB data? by
[email protected]
Hi, I'm a student and out of my curiousness I want to know how data
centers usually store their data. Some mail provider liker Gmail and
Hotmail must have huge volume of data, even properly compressed. I just
can't imagine they could store it in hard drives. Is there any special
devices?
Thanks in...

World disk storage production in 1983 by
Tim Shoppa
A recent document on bitsavers
http://bitsavers.org/pdf/dec/competitiveAnalysis/Engineering_Strategy_Review_Mar82.pdf
has an estimate - in 1983 - of worldwide "large disk" production
(including IBM) at about 60,000 units. (I get this by adding the "OEM
numbers" to the "IBM numbers").
Capacity...

I've contacted Snap's support, but haven't...
