HSG80 Storageworks RA8000 SAN on Windows 2003 Enterprise by
John Walker
Anyone had any luck getting an RA8000 StorageWorks array to work under
Windows 2003? We are using the 64 bit / 66MHz Compaq Fibre Channel HBA
and 8.7 HSG80 firmware using arbitrated loop.
We are able to get the system to work under Windows 2000, and if we
upgrade to 2K3 Enterprise, the system will...

Disk system for storing archival data by
richard rhodes
I am interested in our thoughts and comments on a raid system that
would be used for storing archival data.
Requirements:
- maximum capacity
- minimum dollars (but not cheap, as in poor quality)
- minimal performance need (the data mostly just sits there)
- must provide "phone home" capability to...

Data backup ideas needed by
CraigRobRunner
I need to start taking more precautions when backing up my data.
What about an 'online backup solution' (http://www.backupright.com)
What about 'tape disk backup'
Or an 'SAN' (http://www.compellent.com/Products.aspx)

Hello,
My DVD player (Samsung SD-616T, Dell Part #2C242) plays through until the
last 2 to 4 minutes and then the picture freezes while the player continues
to turn and the green seek light continues to blink. I am using Windows

Ralf Fassel
We are currently observing tape media errors during our nightly backup
runs. Backup server is a SGI 02, external Sony AIT tape drive.
We started with AIT-1 (Sony SDX-300C) three years ago, 10 Sony
SDX1-25C tapes reused 4 days a week, 8-23GB per tape run (amanda,
backup data go to local disk first...

ILM and Full Text Search by
[email protected]
Hello,
I'm looking into various ILM products such as those from Kazeon, EMC,
NeoPath, etc. One question that comes up is how these products behave
when a client does a full-text search against a volume that contains
data that's been migrated away.
From what I understand, a file access causes...

UFS 'limits'? by
anon
anyone know how extensively Sun or anyone else has tested
the scalability of UFS in real-world write-intensive
environments in terms of number of files and/or dirs?
i'm not talking theoretical limits, but what's actively in
use every day? We've had some issues with NTFS at
~100,000,000...

DoD Harddrive Secure Erase Wipe by
WebDawg
I have a few questions and I have been googling for a while.
You mentioned that it is a felony to erase a hard disk wrong. Can you explain further? Where did you get this information from?
Also you mentioned approved software? Does the DOD actually have a list?
For instance if I were to...

Networked raid storage and NFS by

Hello,
I've been looking for an inexpensive networked storage solution using 4
500 GB SATA hard disks in a 4 bay enclosure that supports raid-5, giving
me 1.5 TB of storage.
I've perused the following possibilities:
StorCenter Pro NAS 150d/2TB from Iomega

Hard Question: Write Performance seems low (Sun StorageTek 6540) by
ChrisS
This is a tough one to describe and ask help for, I know. I
apologize.
I have a relatively new Sun StorageTek 6540 RAID. When purchased we
only bought four trays of storage, 300GB 15,000RPM disks. We set up
all the hosts via a director class Brocade SAN switch (5300 I
think). Ever since I...

Adaptec 2420SA + seagate Barracude 2 LP = FAIL by
Cydrome Leader
I just tried some SEagate barracuda 2TB LP drives on some Adaptec 2420SA
sata II raid cards.
No dice.
the adaptecs are running the latest 5.2.whatever firmware.
they see the seagate drives, the firmware rev, the capacity (1800GB) but
say the drive is not responding.
