Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Problem by
Fish
Hello all,
I need some help with a problem I've been having with my Maxtor
DiamondMax 9 80Gb hard disk. I use this as a secondary drive for
storing data and games.
I've had the drive a few months now, and I keep hearing clunking
noises from it. This occurs when the drive is very busy, and when...

my entire drive, then boot up the machine with the
source drive to inspect the target drive, and start
PartitionMagic to do so, PartitionMagic complains that
the geometry of the partition table doesn't match the
drives actual geometry.

Adam
Sorry, didn't see this post until just now since
I've been focusing on the storage newsgroups.
Yes, I was able to remove the bad HDD and
put another HDD in its place. And, both good HDDs were
detected.
Also, a friend of mine suggested that
I configure the HDD as master rather than
use cable...

Rapid clicks just before Welcome screen by
Knack
HP pavilion xf255 laptop with WinXPP.
Just when the WinXPP splash screen goes black (just before the Welcome
screen) a "rapid fire" of clicks is momentarily heard. This doesn't bode
well for the life of the 2.5" HDD. I've already tried chkdsk /f on the
volume and there were no errors to be...

Incompatible RAID controller? by
@drian
Recently as some may have read, I have been having trouble getting XP to
boot onto a RAID 0 array, using the onboard RAID controller on my Intel

Dead IBM 60GXP solutions? by
default
Hi,
Today one of my IBM 60GXP 41gb drives spontaneously died. It now just makes
a beep-click, beep-click, beep-click sound only. It appears to have gone
offline and is no longer seen by the drive controller. Drive Fitness Test
cannot see it either. The drive does still spin up however and...

I noticed something in the documentation for IBM DJNA drives by
CJT
According to some IBM (probably now Hitachi) documentation I have, the
DJNA drives do "Automatic Drive Maintenance (ADM)" every 6 days (when
powered on continuously that long). Does anybody here know any details
of what they do as part of ADM? The documentation I have doesn't
really give any...

USB 2.0 flash drive as a removable hard disk? by
Mark Buxbaum
Do you think a USB 2.0 flash drive would be fast enough
that it could be treated as a removable hard disk?
It would be a replacement for a dying SCSI Jaz drive.
(I don't expect it to be as fast as a SCSI device).
An alternative would be a SCSI Zip drive.
Thanks! -Mark

Will Partion erase files? by
xeroid
Hi:
I've upgraded my machine and take an hard drive from an old machine
with info I need on it and installed in the new XP Machine. Windows
Explorer does not see the drive. I understand I have to partition this
drive and my question is, will this erase any info on that drive?
Thanks, Xeroid

I just took a Maxtor 120GB drive (one of the first Diamond 5400 RPM drives from
them) that I wasn't using and added it to my system as a second drive, formatted
with NTFS under WinXP Pro w/SP1 and the F: partition.
I then began storing music files on it as I'm getting ready to build or buy a

boot problems after using MaxBlast to clone 40G -> 30G drive by

You dont say what OS is involved. If its XP it can get seriously
confused if it can see the original and the clone during the first
boot after the copy. The trick is to physically disconnect the
40GB drive for the first boot after the clone.
I dont use MaxBlast for cloning myself so it
