A few questions before assembling Linux 7.5TB RAID 5 array by
Yeechang Lee
I'm shortly going to be setting up a Linux software RAID 5 array using
16 500GB SATA drives with one HighPoint RocketRAID 2240 PCI-X
controller (i.e., the controller will be used for its 16 SATA ports,
not its "hardware" fakeraid). The array will be used to store and
serve locally and via gigabit...

Any experience with SATA port selectors? by
Bill Todd
I've found a couple of products on the market (from Marvell and Exar -
not clear whether they're chips or pluggable products), but not much
other information - e.g., whether these, or any others which may be
available, are something close enough to enterprise-grade to use in a
serious storage...

I'm looking at several mid-range storage products and am interested in
anecdotal experience that people in this group may have had with these

Basic SAN Question (Adding vdisk to Win2k3) by
[email protected]
I have created a new vdisk in my MSA1000 disk array. I have also
assigned it to the server "xyz" (there are two other vdisks for this
server that are already setup) but I am not sure how to setup it up in
Windows 2003...??? Confused. Some guidance will be appreciated.
Thanks!

problem with default password on DS300 by
[email protected]
Hello,
I have a new IBM DS300.
I had followed IBM DS300 manual
("IBM TotalStorage DS300 and DS400 Best Practices Guide")
I powered up the DS300.
I connected directly a linux machine to the management port of
controller B.
I could ping the 192.168.70.124 from linux.

Bluetooth storage device for phones by
rishil
The device is a sort of small HDD in your hand but it could be better
if somehow fitted it with the cellphone, as it will not be hassle free
to carry two devices(cellphone and BluOnyx).
The amount of data that you can store in this device ranges between 1
GB to 40 GB. This 85 x 54 x 6 mm devices...

Problem 'ejecting' external USB drive on Win2K by
Bill Todd
I'm starting to feel like an idiot for not being able to get Win2K to
'eject' an external USB drive that I got as a Christmas present for my
wife and daughter. Each time I request that it be 'ejected' (to make it
safe to remove it, presumably by flushing Win2K's internal file cache to
it) it...

Hi
I have a question about storage management, or disk load-balancing,

I am having trouble working out how to scale storage horizontally.
We have a 16x320GB SATA-II RAID-5 array on our internet download
server, which offers a mix of big and small files, (e.g. ISO...

Only if you want to ever recover anything. ;)
You should also be backing up the database every day as well.

Oracle redo logs by

Hi.. I recently ran into a company that archives (daily) their Oracle
redo logs... each log is around 100MB... they have heavy transactions
and run 3 rotational logs. So thats about 300MB per day.
My question is, do they need to do this? Do they need to archive onto
secondary every day's redo...
