Hello,
If I've posted in the wrong place can someone please point me in the
right direction?
I've got a console connection to a HP Storageworks SAN Switch that
I've pulled out of my store to do some testing. I've managed to
connect to the switch via the console using both Putty and
HyperTerminal....

Automating Image Backups of Windows Boot Devices by
W[_3_]
Is there any Windows backup software that will boot a server on a schedule,
and then take control *before Windows boots* to make an image backup of the
boot device, prior to handing off control to Windows? We want to bypass
any possibility of a file being locked during use while Windows is...

Fireproof safes by
jkgroove
Hi David,
I just joined this thread about fireproof safes, so I may be a bit
behind... But there are several products on the market for your
specific interest. If you want to have a fireproof tape backup I
recommend the Schwab DataFORTRESS, a complete fireproof safe that can
hook directly up to...

emc v/s. netapp by
vidyesh
the emc figures on spec.org for their ns700 system at specsfs97_R1.v3
give a fig of 36 k iops per sec at abt 7.1 ms. this is however only
with striping and no raid or snapshots with only 350 gb of data on 136
disks of 144 gb.
this does not seem like a real life situation in any way.

NAS device for a small office - Recommendations requested by
Neil Whitman
I have a 4 user peer to peer network in our office and am seeking a network
storage solution. We've tried the Snapserver 1100 and it offers the speed we
want but it's OS interferes with a data file we're storing. We also tried a
Maxtor 160gb with the Linksys Storage Adapter and it fixed the...

HP StorageWorks AIT2 50/100GB by
Toolmann
I am unable to achieve much more then 1.2:1 compression ratio on my
backups. I run Windows 2000 and use Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 and a
mixture of Compaq 50/100 and Sony SDX2-50C 50/100 tapes. I have tried
compression settings of "hardware first, then software" as well as
"software only".
Any help...

Stupid question on Storage Virtualization by
Jay
Lets say I have 4 - 200 GB drives on my Win 2003 server (C,D,E,F), I want to
combine all 4 of them so I can have a C drive that is 800 GB. I can do NTSF
mounts, but then i need to have sub directories, I just want one big volume.
I don't want to use any RAID card to create a RAID array at this...

researching a "growable" long-term storage solution by
Mikhail Teterin
Hello!
I'm thinking of putting my various CDs, DVDs, digital pictures, backups,
etc. on a large array of disks. Performance is secondary to reliability
and the software or hardware RAID5 will do.
There are two issues, however, which most common RAID5 setups don't seem
to address without...

Help! Brocades and McData by
Jeff Specoli
Hey guys/gals,
I know very little about SANs but have been asked to find information
on the web about which is the better overall switch: The Brocade
Silkworm 3900 or the McData 3232? All I can find are marketing blurbs
and very little about the technical merits of each device. Which do
you...

Zones and RSCN by
Jeff Specoli
Hello,
I'm new to SANs so please excuse my ignorance. I've been reading
about zoning and RSCNs. From what I've read RSCNs are sent to all
members of a zone after a change in the port status occurs on a port
in that zone. For example, if all servers are in the same zone, and
one of them is...

S-AIT / Qualstar by

Are there any opinions out there about the Qualstar's new S-AIT
library? I'm somewhat surprised there is not more discussion about it
on this list and on the web in general. The 500 GB native capacity was
very appealing for my group, however we're having trouble with bugs in
the firmware for the...

Cheapest RAID system? by
Al
Hi,
I have a Shuttle system. I'm looking for an external Raid 1 system
using a Firewire connection preferrably. Something simple i.e. two
hard drives and the cheaper the better (around £400)! Is there such a
thing?
I recently started reading about NAS. Although they seem to connect
via a Rj45...

SCSI HVD PCI-X controller?? by
Hiroshi
Dear all,
I'm looking for a SCSI controller to use with my IBM Magstar library.
To control my Magstar library you've to use HVD (high voltage differential)
SCSI controller, and not more usual LVD.
A good one is the Adaptec AHA-2944UW (HVD), but it has a normal PCI (33mhz)
connector.
In our server...
