Intel to carry on subsidising tablets by
Intel Guy[_3_]
I thought I had read where the tablets Intel was subsidizing were 8
inches and smaller. This article says it was 10 inches and smaller, but
might change that now to 12". Which basically means all tablets (are
there any that are larger?).
I just recently found out that there were 7 or 8" bay...

What is the fastest single-core socket 775 CPU? by
Intel Guy[_3_]
Wondering what the fastest single-core socket 775 CPU is.
Unless one (or more) of the following is multi-core, I'm thinking it's
going to be one of these:
Pentium Extreme 840EE Smithfield 3.20GHz 800MHz 2MB
Pentium D 960(D0) Presler 3.60GHz 800MHz 4MB

What is CPUID info for Celeron 445 (SLAGH)? by
Intel Guy[_3_]
Given this:
http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SLAGH.html
And this:
http://ark.intel.com/products/35277/Intel-Celeron-Processor-445-512K-Cache-1_86-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB
Where would I find CPUID or stepping information for that CPU?

equilvalence of ARM versus x86 for numerical computation? by
[email protected]
As ARM is making inroads into the cluster market, I am curious
how easy it will be to switch to this platform.
In the noughties I worked for a company using clusters of Opterons.
They looked at using Teslas for parallel grunting. However these had
different rounding errors. Since many of their...

NSA and Intel by
Anonymous
Why backdoor just one brand of compiler (since there are several), when you could backdoor the architecture?
I'm pretty sure there is a special sequence of intel instructions which open the unicorn gate, and pipe a copy of all memory writes to NSA's server.

testing usb ports by
species8350
Hi,
I believe that my my front usb ports may be faulty.
Is the a free software package that can tell me if the fault lies with the front ports, or the motherboard?
Thanks
Ps. The rear usb ports work well.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers.

Haswell CPU needs new power supply? by

Brilliant, Intel.
Is this going to stop the decline in desktop PC sales? I doubt I
shall upgrade, while my vintage Sandy Bridge
stuff keeps running.

Can a Pentium-4 CPU partially fail? (internal cache performancedegradation) by
Intel Guy
I have several idential Soyo i845 motherboards that date from 2003 -
2005 time-frame, and several 2.53 ghz Pentium-4 CPU's (.13 micron single
core) with 8k/512k cache.
All boards have had various electrolytic capacitors replaced within the
past year.
One board in particular has been problematic...

Ivy Bridge i5-3570K without rdrand by
Mario Andretti
Installed i5-3570K into GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 mobo. I am not getting the
RDRAND feature!
The rdrand instruction results in "illegal opcode".
Looking at the feature vector of the cpuid instruction reveals rdrand as
absent.
$ cpuid
