HP MSA1000 - Automatic Expansion? by
Barule Technologies
Hi. I have an HP MSA1000 with 9 drives. Eight of the physical drives
are configured across 4 logical drives, with the last physical drive
reserved as an online spare.
I installed three additional drives into the SAN Chassis last night.
Nothing more. When I came in this morning to expand some of...

RAM right or wrong? by
Tizano
I've always understood that hard disc sizes get exaggerated by sellers
dividing by 1000 instead of 1024. I also understand about usable disc
space being less than quoted sizes due to sectorisation.
But I've never come across this before..
My new Dell laptop was sold as having 1024MB RAM. Both...

Bootable ISO with Seagate Drive Firmware? by
Will
Does Seagate (or any third party) distribute a bootable ISO that will look
at all SATA and SCSI drives in a system, then upgrade the drive BIOS if a
newer version is available?

NDMP considerations by
[email protected]
Hi Friends,
I have a task of consolidating some of our datacenters. When done, I
would have accumilated about 1 peta byte of data on our brand new
netapp filers.
While I am in our scoping out phase, I would like to know what
considerations I should take for backing up (full and...

Adaptec 2810SA Device Failure by
[email protected]
I hope someone can help. Got 1T on the line and although it is not
irreplaceable, would hate to have to reload.
I have a raid 5 that has 5 "optimal" drives and all appear to be
working (no symbols on the drive). But the Logical device has a big
red dot with a black x that says "failed". The...

Re-Use DLT4000 drive from Autoloader? by
Rudolf Pitzler
Hi,,
we just replaced 2 Overland Express Autoloaders by a new Quantum LTO
loader, and now I'd like to re-use one of their internal DLT4000
drives as a replacement for an even older Quantum standalone DLT4000.
The drives look fairly identical case-wise (cooling air intakes, front
flaps etc) apart...

Online Storage Poser by

Hi
If this is the wrong group, apologies, and please recommend a better
group for it.
My company has an online custom built Active Server Pages CRM system.
It tracks all our clients, communications, and deals - via user input.
We also store documents relating to those clients online.
However, as...

Zone Creation - Advice by
Scooty
Hi
I am looking at implementing Zoning in my IBM Fast Storage SAN
First question is, are there any implications in simply creating the
zones and applying the zone config but with no HBAs or Storage
Controllers added? Will this affect the current config?
I am looking at using the Single HBA Zoning...

Trunking between two SAN-Switches? by
Ewald Jenisch
Hi,
We're currently running a couple of SAN-Switches in a HP C-Class Blade
interconnected to our central switches (Brocade) with redundant links.
Though the central SAN-Switch does have a trunking license the
Blade-Switches don't have one (yet).
My questions:
o) Is a trunking license really...

Troubleshooting SANs by

I work for a consulting firm, and have begun to do troubleshooting on
small SANs, mostly HP MSA1500cs based.
Many times the problem the customer is talking about is some vague
intermittent slowness issue or something like that. In cases like
this, my troubleshooting goes something like this:

Solaris sd driver and lpfc by
[email protected]
Just a quick question. I recall in years past that if sd.conf was pre-
populated with entries that a boot time delay penalty would occur
which was supposed to be something like 3 seconds per lun for luns
that really weren't available.
My question is does solaris and the sd driver still behave this...

SSD retrofit in an old laptop? by
Jonathan Berry
How close are we to an 8 GB IDE 2.5" form factor SSD hard-drive
replacement for an old laptop or notebook computer, allowing it to
become a totally silent word processor / email / whatever, with long
battery life? Target price: $150 (US) or less.

building nas server for home network by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'm in need for (budget) storage at home. After doing a little
research i decided to build my own NAS server.
I've got an "old" AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with one GB of ram, so that will
be more than sufficient i guess.
I've been thinking of doing the following, but i wonder if it's the
best way...
