What's a good memory performance speed (mb/sec) these days? by
Comp Guy
I'm optimizing the memory and cpu clock settings on an Asus P5NSLI
motherboard and have been using memtest86+ (v 1.70).
The board has a Core2 E6300 (1.86 ghz) clocked to 2.04 ghz (with stock
cooler) and I'm getting about 3335 mb/sec for the memory speed on
memtest. What sort of memory performance...

Beep code sound familiar? by
smackedass
Hello,
I just put a Biostar M7NCD Ultra into a "generic" (Acer type, but not Acer)
case. It appears as though everything is plugged in properly, but...
When I go to power the machine on, it does, initially, but very briefly;
then it powers off and lets off this constant beep code, that goes...

Is this true? by
amanda
If a cpu is not hooked up to a fan and heatsink for
more than 5 seconds(with power on) it will overheat
and the core will break down.

Wireless comp to stereo device? by
Dave Smith[_2_]
Is there a good device for sending audio from a computer to a home
stereo system wirelessly? The comp and stereo system are in the same
room, only about 10 feet apart, but it's impractical for me to run
wires.
Thanks very much.

California network using Holland dial-up access numbers? by
Radium[_2_]
Hi:
Is it possible for an individual in California to connect to a dial-up
network in Holland by dialing an international number than connects to
a modem in the Netherlands?
How much would this cost?
I don't actually plan to do this , however, I like the sound of
dial-modems combined with the...

what is PC2 DDR ? by
[email protected]
I know a bit about what DDR2 is.. and different notch position, not
compatible with DDR.
But i'm puzzled over PC2.
I once suspected that PC2 was DDR2.
I'm sure i've often seen PC2 DDR2
But I just saw some RAM in a laptop that said PC2 but also said DDR.

About partitioning hard drives. by
John Corliss
A friend gave me an ancient Compaq Armada 1584 DMT laptop with a bad
hard drive. I replaced the hard drive with one that has a 40 gb capacity
and the computer's BIOS will only recognize about 8 gb of the total
capacity. In fact, it would only partition it as such.
I'm thinking that I can maybe...

Question about RAM prices by
ddcc
I'm looking for DDR SDRAM Non-ECC at PC2100 or above in 512mb sticks.
As a student, I have a limited budget, and I've tried looking up ebay,
newegg, fry's, and everywhere else, but I can't seem to find a stick
anywhere below $30 that passes memtest86+. Any websites that have cheap and
reliable RAM?

remove IDE, install SATA ? by
Talal Itani
Hello,
I have in my PC two IDE drives, the first is a Western Digital at 7200 RPM,
the second is an older IBM at 5000 RPM. I would like to make my computer
faster to boot, and faster to load applications. My motherboard supports
Serial ATA. Will I see a noticeable difference if I remove the...

New mainboard, printer won't work by
Skeleton Man
Hi,
I recently upgraded my system from a P4/MSI board to an Athlon X2 64/MSI
board. My printer (HP PSC750) was working perfectly with the old board, but
it refuses to co-operate with the new rig. It intalled fine, but the
software keeps telling me it's disconnected, and every time I try to...

Avoid a fresh install of XP... by

I have finally upgraded my Athlon 2400 system. I've had to do it in steps
for budget reasons, so the new parts are on the way a e6400, PT880 Ultra
motherboard (using my existing 1.5GB DDR333 and IDE drive for now) and
7600GS (passive / silent) PCI-i graphics card. Not a bad deal for £180 (all...

Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Temps by
Skeleton Man
Hi all,
My new setup with the athlon x2 seems to run way too hot.. with the stock
cooler at stock speed/voltage the idle core temps reach 60 - 68C with the
case closed.. (Silverstone Temjin TJ04 case)
If I open up the side of the case, I get core temperature readings of
between 50 - 56C...

Old PC as a file server by
besi
Hi
I got 1 450Mhz P3 slot 1 PC. the motherboard can only support 36GB. If i
add PCI IDE Card to the PC, will it support hard disk bigger that 36GB?
Another thing, is it posible to downclock the processor? Since the server
will only serve me, i think it doesn't require that speed.

4 pins for the speaker? by
GT
Why does the PC speaker header need 4 pins and why is the speaker connector
4 pins wide, but only use pin 1 and 4. I have a black (neg) wire on pin 1
and red (pos) wire to pin 4.
Can the motherboard handle 2 speakers (stereo perhaps?)

purchased anything yet, I want to make sure everything is compatible...

Temporary HD Storage by
Robert Heiling
Would the following be a safe method of packaging some drives for temporary

1) Put in individual static-free bag with some silica gel.
2) Insert that package backwards into bubble-wrap package sized to fit.
That's it. I'll take whatever additional packaging efforts that are necessary...

External Drive problem by

I have a Lacie USB external drive which worked perfectly until

When I click on the disc icon, again I'm asked if I want to format it.
The data must still be there, so any ideas on how to reclaim my data
would be much...
