Time Computers and locked down modems?! by
Paul Hutchings
Chap brought his PC in to me today because he thought he was losing the
plot because he couldn't get any dialup connection to work on his shiny new
"Time Machine".
After trying hyperterminal and getting "RESTRICTED" to any ATDT commands, I
did a little digging and it appears they're sold with...

Black Keyboards by
Rob
Anyone know a supplier of miniature, or at least small, black PS2
keyboards? Have found something suitable from IBM which even has a
trackpoint built in, but it's £60. Don't want to spend more than £20
really....

disgo at Currys by
Jay
Currys are selling 128mb disgo (USB2 storage device) for £39.99.
These are over £50 on dabs.com.
I managed to get a "lite" version (more compact, different styling)
for the same price after a small haggle.

Ace traders: Tekheads by
Hellraiser
Just had to say, these guys are great. Fast delivery, prompt responses to
emails, quick refunds, and excellent service when things inevitably go
wrong. Will be doing much more business with these guys in future, recommend
you all do the same.

Dabs bloody website by
Rhys Jones
I'm trying to use dabs.com at the moment but it's so painful that I'm
going to vent some frustration here.
Dabs have been around quite a while, they are a major, if not the
leading, UK based online IT retailer. You would think then that they
might have some idea of how to build and run an...

remember those cheap AOC 19" TFTs that ebuyer were doing? by
Paul Hutchings
Who actually brought one? What do you think of it?
I didn't and now I'm (again) getting sick of looking at a 15" TFT at home
and an 18" TFT at work because the one at home suddenly seems a lot smaller
than it did before I got my new work PC :-)
I see that savastore.com and pcnextday (never heard...

Chill-tek suck by
Hellraiser
Do not use these people at www.chill-tek.com, over 2 weeks and counting so
far for one single item ordered for next day delivery - no sign of it on
Royal Mails Recorded Delivery track and trace (despite recorded not being a
next day service), after a week of hassling they said they'd send...

Best Vendor for HP Scanner by
Edward
I am thinking of getting the HP Scanjet 8290. Anyone knows of a good vendor
for this model?
I see prices can vary by a hundred pound or more between vendors.
Of course, if ordering online, there is also the issue of after sale or
returning faulty goods.
Any suggestion from this group?
Thanks

Wanted: *card* CD wallets with windows by
Space Breaks
I hope this isn't too OT, but I'm trying to find somewhere that sells
*card* CD wallets (sleeves) with windows - for normal sized CDs. I've
checked out my usual suppliers and tried Googling, but had no luck.
All the wallets with windows seem to be made of paper.
The size and position of the...

Seeking supplier of quiet cases/PSU in London by
mainman
I am in London and would like to buy an acoustically quietened PC case and
a also quiet PSU.
The only dealer I have come across in the UK is QuietPC
http://www.quietpc.com/uk/. But their Acousticase C6607 is a whopping £100
including tax. And that is without a PSU. Seems a lot of money to...

DABS website pukes in Internet Explorer by
Jim Howes
Something unusual is happening with DABS today.
We were having trouble placing an order with Internet Explorer.
Usually, I have to use IE to place orders, because dabs.com pukes with
Mozilla.
Today, however, was somewhat different. Our purchasing folk tried
placing an order today with IE, and...

Dabs Carriage charges on orders! by

Hi, Anyone know what their pricing policy is?
I've ordered 4 items, 3 of which aren't available yet. One has been sent
postage £7.05.
Now I'm wondering will I have to pay postage on the rest! My impression was
that my order covered all postage, therefore, IMO the rest should be
delivered at no...

Scan returned item - Not Found Faulty (NFF) :( by
Anton Gysen
Last week I returned a stick of memory to Scan which didn't run at its
rated speed (DDR333 speeds). However, the stick worked fine at a lower
speed (the equivalent of DDR250 - before you have a go at me I _know_
there's no such thing) when I'd changed the CPU:memory ratio in my BIOS.
I sent the...

need to find reliable, knowledgable IT supplier, any reccomendations? by
Luke
Hi all,
For the past 2 years my company (a small business, 20 staff, 25 PCs)
has been buying IT supplies from a company called Westwood West (now
CCI Westwood West, I believe).
Anyway, they used to be good but they've been going downhill and
they're now totally rubbish. As much hassle as it's...
